ALTERRA MOUNTAIN COMPANY ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP CHANGE AT STEAMBOAT RESORT; DAVE HUNTER DEPARTS
10/June/2026
Alterra Mountain Company has announced a significant shakeup in its executive ranks, confirming that it has made the decision to part ways with Dave Hunter, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Steamboat Ski & Resort.
The Denver-based mountain resort conglomerate confirmed that an executive search for Hunter's successor will launch immediately. No specific reason was provided by Alterra management regarding the sudden structural change.
A Familiar Face Steps into the Void
To maintain operational continuity at the premier Colorado destination, Alterra has appointed Rob Perlman to step in and directly oversee the daily operations of the resort effective immediately.
Perlman currently serves as the Regional Executive Vice President (REVP) of Alterra’s Resort Division for the Rockies. His temporary return to the frontlines of Steamboat operations is expected to provide a seamless transition for staff, guests, and the local community. Perlman is widely respected across the Yampa Valley, having spent nine highly successful years as the President and COO of Steamboat himself before being promoted to his regional executive role within Alterra.
Backed by more than 30 years of elite leadership experience in the ski and hospitality industry, Perlman’s deep institutional knowledge of Steamboat's culture, community partnerships, and massive terrain footprint makes him uniquely qualified to guide the resort through this sudden transitional period.
Steamboat’s Next Chapter
Hunter’s departure comes on the heels of a massive evolutionary phase for the resort. Steamboat recently completed its historic "Full Steam" master plan—a multi-year, $220 million transformation that included the construction of the Wild Blue Gondola, massive base area redevelopments, and a substantial expansion into the Mahogany Ridge terrain, cementing it as the second-largest ski resort in Colorado.
As the industry pivots its focus toward the upcoming 2026/2027 winter preparation cycles and summer mountain operations, Alterra officials emphasized that Steamboat remains on a strong strategic path.
Further details regarding the timeline of the global executive search or candidates to permanently fill the President and COO vacancy are expected to be released as the recruitment process gets underway.
