Excellent young talent: Kim Kabamba is “Apprentice of the Month May 2026”

Great recognition for exceptional commitment and outstanding achievements: Kim Kabamba, apprentice at Schmittenhöhebahn AG, was honored by the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce as “Apprentice of the Month May 2026”.

The official ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the company premises. The award was presented by Provincial Councillor Daniela Gutschi, President Peter Buchmüller, Chamber of Commerce Director Gert Raspotnig, and Martina Plaschke during a formal ceremony.

Representing Schmittenhöhebahn AG at the ceremony were board member Dr. Erich Egger, authorized signatory Ing. Hannes Mayer and HR manager Mag. Christian Mayr.

An extraordinary career path

Kim Kabamba embodies commitment, courage, and determination. Originally from Germany, she began her apprenticeship at Schmittenhöhebahn AG in November 2022, completing a dual training program as a cable car and electrical engineer. Prior to this, she served for two years as a mountain infantrywoman, an experience that shaped her passion for the mountains and working under demanding conditions.

In February 2026, she completed her training as a cable car technician with excellent results. She is currently working towards becoming an electrical engineer, a qualification she plans to complete in autumn 2026. Simultaneously, Kim is studying electrical and information engineering via distance learning. An impressive example of combining practical experience with further education.

A role model in a male-dominated technical field

The combination of technical expertise, a strong sense of responsibility, and a passion for nature makes Kim Kabamba a particularly versatile young professional. As a young woman in a still male-dominated technical industry, she is also setting a powerful example and serving as a role model for future generations.

Alongside her professional development, she is also involved in mountain rescue and enjoys a variety of sports in her free time, from climbing and paragliding to ski touring.

Proud of our strong apprenticeship program

“We are very proud that, following Celina Schuster, Kim Kabamba is the second of our trainees to be awarded ‘Apprentice of the Month’. This honor impressively confirms the quality of our apprenticeship program and the commitment of our entire team. We are particularly pleased that Kim, once again a young woman in a technically oriented industry, has achieved this success and thus serves as an important role model,” emphasizes CEO Erich Egger.

Apprenticeship with a future

The Salzburg Chamber of Commerce's "Apprentice of the Month" award recognizes young talents who stand out through their professional competence, dedication, and personal development. Kim Kabamba is being honored as a promising young professional who exemplifies the attractiveness and diversity of technical apprenticeships.

Her career path impressively demonstrates the opportunities offered by a sound education, especially in an industry that combines technical know-how, a sense of responsibility, and a passion for working in nature.
