Carezza Dolomites further reduces its accounted greenhouse gas emissions

According to the current greenhouse gas balance for 2025, Carezza Dolomites' recorded operational greenhouse gas emissions have decreased from 470 to 284 tons of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e). This corresponds to a reduction of approximately 40 percent compared to the previous year. A key factor in this development was the conversion of the vehicle fleet to the renewable fuel HVO.

The greenhouse gas inventory was prepared according to the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol and forms the basis for the Carezza Dolomites ski lift consortium to evaluate and further develop its operational climate measures. As early as the 2024/2025 winter season, around three-quarters of the snow groomers were powered by the renewable fuel HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). Since autumn 2025, all snow groomers – with the exception of snowmobiles – as well as the entire company vehicle fleet have been powered by HVO. According to the results of the greenhouse gas inventory, direct greenhouse gas emissions from the snow groomers decreased by approximately 57 percent compared to the previous year.

Carezza Dolomites also relies on renewable energy sources for its energy supply. According to the energy provider's documentation, 100 percent of the electricity used for operations comes from renewable energy sources. The corresponding Green Energy certificates from the energy provider Alperia are published at www.carezza.it. Therefore, the greenhouse gas balance for electricity consumption continues to show no Scope 2 emissions.

Responsibility with concrete measures

“Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is an ongoing process for us. Our current assessment shows that we can achieve measurable improvements through concrete measures. Converting a large part of our vehicle fleet to the renewable fuel HVO was a significant step in this direction. At the same time, we see further potential. Our goal is to continuously reduce our company's greenhouse gas emissions through further technical and organizational measures, thereby contributing to the responsible management of the sensitive natural and cultural landscape of the Dolomites,” says Maria Gufler, Sustainability Manager of the Carezza Dolomites consortium.

For the coming years, Carezza Dolomites ski lifts are planning, among other things, further optimization of their vehicle fleet, the implementation of sustainable mobility measures, projects to promote biodiversity, and the continuous improvement of their greenhouse gas balance. The goal is to gradually reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions further within the scope of technical and economic possibilities.

From field to plate

Carezza Dolomites also prioritizes regional value chains at its own restaurant, Laurins Lounge. The company participates in the "Bergler Acker" project in Tiers – a community garden near the valley station of the Tiers Cabrio cable car, where regional vegetables and herbs are cultivated and harvested together. Once a week, the fresh produce is transported by cable car to the Laurins Lounge at 2,337 meters and prepared there into seasonal dishes – true to the motto "from field to plate." The menu is complemented by other regional products, including those from the Flaschtalhof farm in Petersberg. In this way, Carezza Dolomites strengthens its collaboration with local producers and focuses on short, regional value chains.

Background to the greenhouse gas balance 2025

• The greenhouse gas balance was prepared by the Terra Institute in Brixen according to the specifications of the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol).

• The greenhouse gas emissions (Corporate Carbon Footprint) caused by Carezza Dolomites' operations at the Welschnofen site were recorded for the financial year 2025.

• All relevant greenhouse gases are reported as CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e) according to their climate impact.

• This inventory serves to analyze emission sources, identify reduction potentials, and transparently document the effectiveness of implemented measures.
