Consorzio Cimone has acquired the historic "ex Sirs" chairlift connecting Lamaccione to Pian Cavallaro

Marking its 50th anniversary with a strategic infrastructure investment, the Consorzio Cimone has acquired the historic "ex Sirs" chairlift connecting Lamaccione to Pian Cavallaro from the company Nix.

For over 30 years, the lift—capable of transporting up to 2,800 people per hour—has functioned as a critical backbone linking the Passo del Lupo, Cimoncino, and Le Polle sectors within the Modenese Apennines resort. The transaction was secured with financing support from Banca Sanfelice 1893.

Key Specifications & Status

  • Official Name: "Seggiovia del Cimone".

  • Lift Type: 4-person detachable high-speed chairlift manufactured by Leitner.

  • Capacity: Up to 2,800 people per hour.

  • Length: 1,391 metres.

  • Strategic Role: Serves as the primary backbone connecting the main areas of the Monte Cimone ski resort, including Passo del Lupo, Cimoncino, and Le Polle.

Strategic Importance

This acquisition brings the critical mountain transport network back into local hands after years of changing corporate ownership.

“The Cimone chairlift, formerly Sirs, has had various vicissitudes over all these years, and it seemed right for it to return to local companies because it was precisely with the construction of this chairlift that the Consortium began to grow...” as stated by Dovesciare.

The acquisition ensures long-term economic stability for the region and secures the infrastructure necessary to expand into a unified, 12-month four-season tourism model—including operations throughout the summer season.

Consorzio Cimone President Luciano Magnani emphasized that returning the chairlift to local ownership restores a foundational piece of the resort's heritage, as the lift's original construction played an essential role in driving early regional economic growth. The takeover coincides with the lift operating through the summer season for the first time, advancing the resort's transition toward a year-round, four-season tourism strategy.

"The purchase was made possible thanks to financing from Banca Sanfelice 1893, which is increasingly involved in our mountain area. The Cimone chairlift, formerly SIRS, has had various ups and downs over the years, and it seemed right to us that it should be returned to local companies, because it was precisely with the construction of this chairlift that the Consortium began to grow and become crucial to the local economy," stated Luciano Magnani, president of the Cimone Consortium, in an interview with Il Resto del Carlino.

The move also aligns with the resort's focus on environmental standards. Recognized as the first "green" ski area in the Apennines, Cimone secured Central Italy's first ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) certification earlier in 2026.

The announcement arrives alongside the final days of the resort's 2026–2027 early-bird season pass sale, featuring discounts of up to 30 percent. To foster cross-resort collaboration across the Tuscan-Emilian mountains, adult season pass holders for the upcoming winter season will also receive five complimentary days of skiing at the neighboring Abetone resort.
