COURT APPROVES RESTRUCTURING PLAN FOR FUNIVIE MOLISE, CUTTING DEBT IN HALF AND SECURING RESORT CONTINUITY

In a major development for regional tourism in Molise, the Court of Campobasso has officially approved a two-year business continuity restructuring plan (concordato preventivo in continuità aziendale) for Funivie Molise S.p.A..

The ruling, issued on July 21, 2026, brings an end to a complex three-year legal proceeding and clears the path for renewed investment and seasonal planning across key mountain destinations like Campitello Matese and Capracotta.

Debt Reduced from €10M to €4.5M

Through external financial support from its majority shareholder—the Molise Regional Government—Funivie Molise successfully negotiated a significant write-down of its outstanding liabilities.

Key financial highlights of the restructuring agreement include:

• Debt Reduction: Total company liabilities were cut from approximately €10 million down to €4.5 million.

• Capital Injections: The regional government will contribute roughly €2.3 million in the first year and €2.2 million in the second year to execute the court-sanctioned settlement.

• Creditor Consensus: The restructuring plan secured majority approval across all creditor classes, including major parties such as the Municipality of San Massimo, the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate), and local suppliers.

The resolution was further unblocked by an official opinion from the State Attorney's Office (Avvocatura dello Stato), which confirmed that the regional authority was under no legal obligation of financial bail-out (soccorso finanziario), allowing the voluntary agreement to proceed.

Path to Financial Self-Sufficiency

With the court ruling returning Funivie Molise to solvent status (in bonis), the company—currently led by sole director Stefano Testa—can resume standard commercial operations.

• Once legacy debts are cleared under the supervision of legal advisor Nicola Lucarelli and financial advisors PVG, Funivie Molise is projected to operate self-sufficiently through recurring revenue streams:

• Ski Infrastructure Leases: Annual payments of approximately €100,000 from Matese Ski, which holds the operational lease for local lift systems through 2028.

• Hospitality Assets: Income generated from renting out the historic Rifugio Jezza, one of the oldest lodging structures in Campitello Matese, dating back to the late 1920s.

Boost for Regional Mountain Tourism

Campitello (specifically Campitello Matese) and Capracotta are two prominent high-altitude mountain and winter sports destinations located in the Molise region of Italy. Both are famous for their heavy snowfall, alpine landscapes, and outdoor recreation.

Campitello Matese (San Massimo)

• Location: A village/frazione in the municipality of San Massimo, sitting at 1,450 meters (4,760 ft) above sea level in the Matese massif. 

• Winter Sports: One of the premier ski resorts in central and southern Italy, featuring around 35–40 km of alpine ski slopes, multiple ski lifts, and cross-country trails. 

• Summer Activities: Popular for hiking and walking tours near Monte Miletto (2,050 m), meadows, and natural caves. 

Capracotta

• Location: A distinct mountaintop municipality in the Province of Isernia, sitting at an altitude of 1,421 meters (4,662 ft), making it one of the highest towns in central Italy. 

• Snow Record: Gained international fame for a record-breaking snowfall event on March 5, 2015, when roughly 2.56 meters (101 inches) of snow fell in 24 hours. 

• Key Attractions: Features the Prato Gentile cross-country ski center with 15 km of scenic trails and the high-altitude Giardino di Flora Appenninica botanical garden. 

The resolution has been warmly welcomed by local hoteliers, business owners, and regional officials who rely heavily on stable ski resort operations. Removing the threat of liquidation allows stakeholders to move forward with longstanding modernization plans and summer/winter promotional strategies for the Molise Apennines.
