Arlberg Mountain Railways runs Mountaineering training courses at the mountain station of the Tanzböden cable car.

Recently, another monthly mountain rescue training session took place – this time at the mountain station of the Tanzböden cable car.

Employees from various departments participate in the training, having volunteered for our rescue teams. As Operations Manager Franz Laimer explains in the video, they are prepared for a wide range of scenarios to ensure the highest safety standards at all times. Since last year, they have also been supported by the St. Anton am Arlberg Mountain Rescue team, led by Chairman Kurt Hüttl, which now not only assists on the ground but also works directly with us on the cable car. Together, they train both the technical procedures of a rescue and the correct way to handle guests in an emergency.

Each cable car is equipped with rescue equipment from our partner IMMOOS GmbH | Rescue and Safety Systems. Thanks to the emergency drives, the systems can safely bring passengers back to the station in the vast majority of cases. A rescue by rappelling is only necessary in rare exceptional cases – which makes it all the more important that every move is second nature should such a situation arise.

Besides the technical aspects, the human factor also plays a crucial role: remaining calm, conveying a sense of security, and always working in pairs – all of this is practiced during regular training sessions.
