83rd International Inferno-Races 2027: Register by 15 September

Ski enthusiasts have until 15 September 2026 to register for the International Inferno Races, which will take place in Mürren from 20 to 23 January 2027. A total of 1,850 starting places are available for the legendary Inferno Downhill. Following its successful debut, the cross-country skiing combined event will also be held again in Stechelberg in 2027.

Anticipation is building for the next International Inferno races: from 20 to 23 January 2027, Mürren will once again become a meeting place for skiers from near and far. Anyone wishing to take part in the legendary Inferno Downhill or the Super-Combination can register online until 15 September 2026. Once again this year, significantly more entries are expected for Downhill than there are starting places available. Online registration for the International Inferno Races is open at www.inferno-muerren.ch. The field for the Inferno Downhill on Saturday 23 January 2027 is limited to 1,850 participants, whilst that for the Super-Combination is limited to 500. All skiers who register by the deadline and have achieved an Inferno award at one of the last three events are guaranteed a starting place. The remaining places will be allocated by drawing after the registration deadline. Around 2,200 entries are received for the downhill race each year. The race is open to men and women born in 2009 or later.

Cross-country skiing combined event to remain in Stechelberg

What was born out of necessity last year has proved its worth: the cross-country skiing combined event will take place in Stechelberg again in 2027. Due to the difficult snow conditions in Mürren, the course was moved to the shady and cool valley floor for the first time. The new venue impressed not only with better snow conditions, but also with the atmosphere along the course. The organising committee has therefore decided to hold the cross-country event in Stechelberg again for the upcoming competition. The start will be brought forward by one hour to 3 pm. The prize-giving ceremony will once again take place alongside that of the combined giant slalom on Thursday afternoon at the Winteregg restaurant.

Inferno atmosphere off the racetrack too

The Inferno is not just about the sporting competition. In 2027, too, a varied programme of events will provide entertainment and a chance to socialise. The meeting place for all partygoers is the sports hall with catering facilities at the Mürren Sports Centre. On Friday evening, the traditional Inferno parade winds its way through Mürren. Musical entertainment is also on the cards: the Austrian party band Mölltal Sounds will be getting the party started on Friday and Saturday evenings. Their repertoire ranges from folk music and evergreens to well-known party anthems. This means that the next edition of the Inferno will once again deliver what has defined the event for 99 years now: sporting challenges, a special atmosphere and a weekend where there’s plenty going on off the racetrack as well.
