Crans-Montana is preparing for the big ski festival

With 160 days to go before the opening ceremony, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Crans-Montana 2027 are entering the decisive phase of the project. After several years of preparation, the concepts have now been finalized and implementation is in full swing.

In the coming months, the infrastructure will take shape, the final construction work will be completed, and all teams will be mobilized to host the biggest sporting event in Crans-Montana since the 1987 World Championships from February 1st to 14th, 2027.

The concepts have been approved, the decisions made – and the first temporary infrastructure is about to be erected. The organizing team is being further expanded to meet the increasing demands. At the same time, collaboration with key partners – especially with the CMA mountain railways, the Association des communes de Crans-Montana, and Swiss-Ski – is being intensified to ensure the coordination of all processes.

“From now on, the World Championships will take shape more and more each week. Our team is working towards a common goal: to create an unforgettable event that brings athletes, media, partners, volunteers and the public together around a shared passion, while also leaving a lasting legacy for our region,” explains Didier Défago, CEO of Crans-Montana 2027.

The logistics teams are already handling the delivery and the precise, well-planned distribution of materials to the various storage areas. This ensures that all necessary materials are available in the right place on time.

The material requirements on the slopes are impressive: more than 40 kilometers of safety netting, 2,300 poles, and numerous other pieces of technical equipment must be delivered, distributed, and installed before the competitions – a total of approximately 900 tons of material. The technical team comprises around 60 people, who have been deployed on a temporary basis since this summer and will be increasingly involved on a regular basis from the beginning of 2027.

In parallel, the infrastructure is being thoroughly inspected – from the cabling and safety systems to the various technical installations necessary for the event's operation. The final work on the permanent infrastructure is also nearing completion. Work on the "Mélèzes Wall" will be finished by the end of August. At the same time, the modifications for the artificial snowmaking system on the former Piste Nationale, as well as the work on the road and the square in Barzettes, are entering their final phase.

From mid-September, the Barzettes site will be transformed with the start of construction of temporary infrastructure: grandstands, a mixed zone, a VIP tent, and offices will be set up. From September 23rd to 25th, 2026, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) will conduct its final official inspection.
