Pizol's Successful Easter business leads to another record winter

With 263,000 first-time visitors, the existing record from the previous winter was surpassed once again. Until mid-March, however, it seemed unlikely that this high level from the previous year would be reached again. Two significant cold air outbreaks finally brought winter back with heavy snowfall and ensured excellent winter sports conditions at the end of the season. Good Friday, in particular, with 5,000 guests, proved to be the highlight of the outstanding Easter season.

The new snowmaking system is being put to the test.

The snowmaking system, which was further expanded in the summer of 2025, faced a real test this winter. A strategically used cold snap in November allowed for an early start to the season on November 22nd with an initially limited but attractive selection of slopes. This was subsequently expanded continuously, so that guests had around 20 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes available over Christmas and New Year's, despite low natural snowfall.

The high-performance snowmaking system proved a decisive advantage during the period of low snowfall until the first significant snowfall in February. The reliable system also attracted new guests, which was reflected in a very good result in January – indeed, the best result ever achieved in January. In February, this performance was slightly dampened by a week of weaker weather.

Extraordinary end to the season

March began with a sunny and mild spell, offering ideal conditions for spring skiing. The north-facing slopes of the Pizol provided consistently excellent piste conditions, even at lower elevations. With the fresh snowfall in the second half of March, demand increased noticeably once again. Contrary to the usual trend, very good operating days were recorded even at the end of March.

The catering and accommodation sectors are also on a good course.

Restaurants and group accommodations also performed well. Numerous busy weekends, a mild New Year's period, and an increasing number of club and group ski days contributed to a positive result. The continued high demand for group accommodations is likely due, at least in part, to the improved snow reliability.

More variety of slopes and well-rounded offers

As part of the expansion of the artificial snowmaking system, the range of slopes was also specifically developed further. New slopes were created on the Wangs side and existing slopes were adjusted. This allowed the offerings to be optimized for both sporty guests and beginners.

The core offerings are complemented by additional attractions such as the rider park, the funslope, and an extensive network of winter hiking trails. Events like the Migros Ski Day, the "Altiski," and the Waterslide Contest at the end of the season contribute significantly to the visibility and appeal of the Pizol. The FIS ski races held at the Pizol in mid-March were also very well received.

Summer in the mountains is approaching.

The summer season starts as early as Ascension Day, May 14, 2026, with daily operation of the Bad Ragaz-Pardiel gondola lift. From Saturday, June 27, 2026, all summer lifts will be in daily operation.

In addition to the popular 5-Lakes Hike, guests can enjoy a wide range of hiking and excursion opportunities. The "Alpine Cinema" at the reservoir near the Pizolhütte mountain hut has created an additional spot for tranquility and panoramic views. The newly designed shoreline with seating and a jetty into the Twärchammsee lake invite visitors to linger.

Family-friendly activities such as the Heidi Trail, the Water Forest at the ford, and the MounTeens Detective Trail are key components of the summer program. These are complemented by mountain carts, which offer an action-packed mountain experience on the Pizol even during the warmer months.
