INTERSPORT GERMANY EXPANDS SOLAR POWER INFRASTRUCTURE AT HEILBRONN HEADQUARTERS

In a major push toward energy independence and sustainability, Intersport Germany eG has deployed a new 2.2-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic system at its central headquarters in Heilbronn.

The extensive installation—spanning four rooftop surfaces and an outdoor ground-mounted setup—is projected to prevent approximately 16,000 tons of CO₂ emissions over its operational lifespan.

Powering Operations and Supply Chain Facilities

The newly installed system directly powers the core operations on the Heilbronn campus:

• Automated Logistics Hub: Supplies green electricity to the company’s 27,000-square-meter logistics center, supporting automated warehouse systems, robotics, and order fulfillment technology.

• Headquarters & Event Venue: Powers administrative offices as well as the adjacent "redblue" event center, which hosts dozens of industry exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Under the current setup, Intersport will consume roughly half of the solar power generated directly on-site to cover immediate energy needs. The remaining surplus energy will be fed into the public power grid, creating a secondary revenue stream for the retail cooperative while offsetting overall operational costs.

Diversified Energy Strategy

The photovoltaic system works in tandem with the site’s existing combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Electricity from the CHP unit is also prioritized for local consumption, while its waste heat is captured and repurposed to heat campus buildings during colder months.
