Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes in France star in Iglu’s latest sales figures,

Two resorts in France have stood out for sales this winter, says Iglu Ski.

Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes in France star in Iglu’s latest sales figures, when compared to 8 other French resorts classed by Iglu as affordable.

Here are the 7 reasons why:

1. Average prices.  For around an average cost of £1962 per person for the week, you have easy access to 250 km of pistes in Alpe d’Huez, including a good supply of gentle beginners’ slopes and the 16km Sarenne, thought to be the longest black run in Europe. Reaching altitudes of 3,600m, home to Europe’s largest skiable glacier, and 220 km of local slopes, Les Deux Alpes punches well above its weight considering you can have a week-long holiday there for an average of just £1,699 per person.

2. Number of properties.  Both offer a good range of accommodation, meaning there is something for everyone who wants to come to the sunny southern slopes of Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes. Moving away from simple apartments, towards alpine-chic and family-centric accommodation, today there are five star luxury and boutique resorts together with upscale residences. Prestigious chalets also exist to provide the perfect base. Iglu Ski offers 34 property choices and 17 in Les Deux Alpes.

3. Price of lift pass.  The lift pass price is cheaper than most in France, and has the concept of Reciprocal Days in either resort. Two days at the sister resort, accessed by the free shuttle bus or scenic helicopter link, makes for a hugely satisfying week of skiing. A 6-day pass in Alpe d’Huez is around £277 and in Les Deux Alpes, £274.

4. Good for groups.  These are big-league resorts, with impressively extensive and varied slopes to suit everyone. There are lots of long runs with big verticals. The resorts are lively and popular with the après-ski crowd.

5. Good for all ages.  Find an ice rink, indoor/outdoor swimming pool and shops, bars and restaurants.

6. Sunshine at high altitude. Fabulous high setting on a sunny plateau. Splendid views of the Ecrins peaks.

7. Skiing in different sectors.  In Alpe d’Huez, the slopes divide into four sectors, with good connections between them. There is a free ski bus service around the resort. Snowparks offer fun on the slopes.

Simon McIntyre, Iglu Ski’s Managing Director says, ‘These two resorts have stood out in our latest figures for their popularity this winter. It’s not hard to see why, when they combine awesome high-altitude skiing, sunshine, partying and great views. But this all comes at an affordable price, where the lift price is lower than resorts further north, and gives access to more than one resort. Whilst we knew these resorts would be sought after this winter, their value for money in particular, means they have really ticked the box for many skiers.’
