Three new members – FESA continues to grow
08/October/2026
The General Assembly of the Fédération of European Ski and Snowboard Associations (FESA) took place in Geneva, as part of the meetings of the FIS Technical Committee.
General Assembly defines vision until 2030
A key focus was the presentation of the results of the FESA Strategic Workshop held in August 2026. The newly elected board and management team defined the association's priorities for 2030. Key objectives include strengthening FESA's visibility and brand, introducing European Championships, expanding opportunities for athlete development, and creating added value for member associations and partners.
During the general meeting, the representatives of the member associations received an overview of FESA's activities over the past months, approved important strategic decisions and discussed the future development of skiing in Europe.
Melanja Korošec , Chair of the FESA Marketing Commission, presented initiatives aimed at further increasing FESA's visibility and recognition. The General Assembly also approved the establishment of a new Snowboard Commission , which will focus on the structural development of snowboarding within FESA and strengthen cooperation between national federations in this growing discipline.
The delegates reaffirmed their commitment to Nordic combined following its removal from the Olympic program. FESA emphasized that the discipline remains an integral part of European winter sport and confirmed its intention to work closely with FIS and national ski federations to support athletes and organizing committees and to promote the sport's swift return to the Olympic program.
The future implementation of the European Championships was another important topic. The member associations unanimously recognized these events as an important step towards promoting snow sports in Europe and creating additional development opportunities for athletes.
The assembly welcomed FIS President Alexander Ospelt and FIS Secretary General Urs Lehmann , who emphasized the importance of close cooperation between FIS and FESA. Both organizations share the common goal of strengthening snow sports through joint projects, training programs, and athlete development initiatives. As an example, the successful implementation of the Speed Academy , part of the Alpine Performance Series with five stops in Europe in 2026/27, was presented as an important tool in alpine speed disciplines.
FESA also approved its budget for the 2026/27 season. Thanks to the acquisition of several new sponsors and partners, the federation enters the new season with a solid financial foundation, thus enabling further investments in sports development projects and services for its members.
A significant milestone was the admission of three new member associations :
Lithuanian Ski Federation
Snowsports Federation Ireland
Slovak Ski Association
With the inclusion of these associations, FESA now unites 22 member associations across Europe , further strengthening its position as a continental platform for the development of snow sports.
FESA President Roswitha Stadlober commented : “This General Assembly demonstrated the strong momentum and unity within FESA. We defined a clear vision for the future, strengthened our partnership with FIS, and made important decisions that will benefit snow sports across Europe. I am particularly pleased to welcome the Lithuanian Ski Federation, the Irish Snow Sports Federation, and the Slovak Ski Federation to the FESA family. Their membership is further evidence of the growing strength of our organization. Together, our 22 member federations will continue to create opportunities for athletes, coaches, and federations, shaping a successful future for European snow sports.”
