The St. Ulrich – Seiser Alm cable car monitors 4 km of tow rope with AURA.

The St. Ulrich–Seiser Alm cable car connects the center of St. Ulrich with the Seiser Alm at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters, providing quick access to one of Europe's most renowned alpine destinations. Operated by the Kostner family, with Werner Kostner and his son Andreas at the helm, the cable car combines a long family tradition with a strong focus on safety and innovation. Seeking an automated addition to their 2S inspection system, the operator opted for Raidyn's AURA continuous rope monitoring technology. Remarkably, the entire system was installed by the local team with support from Raidyn. During the summer, representatives from the Province of Bolzano and the engineering firm of Ing. Gasser were invited to oversee the installation and commissioning, with Raidyn representatives present.
“ The safety of our passengers and the system is our top priority. This system finally allows us to monitor the tow rope effectively, accurately, and without risk. We were very impressed with the image quality, even at high speeds. ” Andreas Kostner - Operations Manager - Funivia St. Ulrich
The initial results confirmed the quality of the installation and demonstrated reliable automated analysis, including continuous splice monitoring of the haul rope. The project also marks the beginning of a broader collaboration: Raidyn and the Kostner family have agreed to jointly extend the technology beyond the haul ropes to include the inspection of the trolleys. This makes St. Ulrich an important reference site for Raidyn – not only as an example of continuous rope monitoring in an operating cable car, but also as a joint innovation project intended to expand the possibilities of automated image processing for supporting cable car safety in the future.
“ With Raidyn, we have also found a competent partner with whom we can work closely to further develop our safety systems. It is important to us to always stay up-to-date with the latest safety standards .” Andreas Kostner – Operations Manager – Funivia St. Ulrich
