Wayfinder Bootfitters Launches Free Online Ski Boot Fitting
09/October/2026
Wayfinder Bootfitters today launched its free online ski boot fitting service for the 2026-27 season, after a beta season and more than 430 foot scans.
Most skiers who buy boots online pick a size and a stiffness without anyone measuring their feet. Wayfinder is built to replace that guess. Skiers scan both feet with a phone and a sheet of printer paper, answer a short quiz, and get up to three ranked boots matched to their foot length, width and instep, plus the flex they should ski.
“In 2018 I waited a month for a fitting, spent five hours in the shop and paid $300 on top of the boots,” said Bruce Botsford, founder of Wayfinder Bootfitters. “Most skiers don’t have that time or a great bootfitter nearby. Wayfinder gives them a real answer from their phone.”
Last season’s beta shaped what launches today. Across hundreds of Wayfinder foot scans, about 4 in 10 skiers had feet that differed in length by 3mm or more, and about 1 in 6 by a half size or more, a difference most skiers never know about until a boot hurts. Since the beta, Wayfinder has shipped dozens updates, from sharper boot matching to a refreshed 2026-27 catalogue.
Wayfinder also offers a free Ski Boot Flex Calculator, a standalone tool that needs no account. Flex is the stiffness rating on every ski boot, and it is easy to get wrong as flex ratings are not standardized in the industry. The calculator uses weight, ability and skiing style, plus boot type, to return a recommended starting flex. A 170-pound intermediate skier in a men’s boot gets a 110; an advanced skier of the same weight gets a 120.
“One of the most common mistakes is buying a boot that’s too stiff because stiffer sounds better,” Botsford said. “And a lot of skiers assume every boot needs heat molding, punching and grinding to work. If the shell actually matches your foot, many skiers need far less work before getting out on the mountain. The hard part is finding that shell, and that’s a measurement problem we can solve from a phone.”
Recommendations draw from more than 500 current ski boots, including 2026-27 models from Tecnica, Lange, Atomic, Nordica, Salomon, Rossignol, Dalbello, K2 and Fischer. Wayfinder is free to use; skiers create a free account to see their full shortlist and where to buy. Wayfinder earns a commission on purchases through retailer links, which does not affect which boots it recommends.
