Spyder to Open First Full-Price Store at Mall of America
23/October/2026
Skiwear brand Spyder is preparing to open a new store at Minnesota’s Mall of America, marking a significant step in the company’s retail strategy and its first full-price standalone location.
The store will give Spyder a permanent presence in one of the United States’ most visited shopping destinations as the brand enters a new phase under Outdoor Collective, the company responsible for its global operations, design and manufacturing.
A “coming soon” sign has appeared on the mall’s main floor, close to Nordstrom, in a unit previously occupied by Evereve before that retailer relocated. The opening date has not yet been announced, but the store is expected to launch ahead of the winter shopping season.
The Mall of America location will be Spyder’s first store in Minnesota and its first full-price store, according to the announcement. The brand previously operated an outlet at Woodbury Common in New York, but that location closed in February 2025 as Spyder’s operating structure changed.
The move follows a major transition for the ski apparel business. In February 2025, Outdoor Collective took over Spyder’s global operations, design and manufacturing after Liberated Brands, the company’s previous licensee, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Outdoor Collective is led by CEO Harry Tawil and also produces products under licence for Authentic Brands Group labels including Billabong, Reebok and Volcom.
The new operating arrangement places greater emphasis on building a direct relationship with customers. A full-price store allows Spyder to control how its technical ski clothing is presented, provide a complete expression of the brand and offer a more immersive experience than a wholesale concession or outlet environment.
That distinction matters in ski apparel, where customers often shop across a complete clothing system rather than for a single garment. Jackets, salopettes, midlayers, gloves and accessories need to work together across changing weather conditions, and specialist retail provides an opportunity to explain the technologies and intended uses behind each product.
Mall of America offers Spyder access to a substantial audience. Since opening in 1992, the Bloomington destination has developed into a major retail and entertainment complex, attracting around 32 million visitors a year and hosting more than 300 events. It also generates more than $3 billion in annual economic impact for Minnesota, according to the mall’s own figures.
The location is also well suited to a brand seeking visibility beyond traditional ski towns. Minnesota has a strong winter-sports culture, while the mall draws visitors from across the United States and internationally. A store in Bloomington could therefore serve local skiers while also introducing Spyder to tourists and consumers who may know the brand from resorts, racing or department-store retail.
Spyder was founded in the late 1970s by David Jacobs, a former head coach of the Canadian National Ski Team. The company began with race sweaters and ski pants before developing into one of the best-known specialist ski apparel brands. Its identity has long been linked to performance, colour and racing, helping it stand out in a category where technical credentials and visual recognition are both important.
The brand has been owned by Authentic Brands Group since 2013, when it became one of the company’s early acquisitions. Authentic’s model generally relies on licensing and operating partners to manage product development, distribution and retail, making the handover to Outdoor Collective a significant part of Spyder’s current development.
The new store also arrives during a period of renewed activity at Mall of America. Recent additions include adidas, while the centre continues to promote a mix of major international brands, independent retailers, restaurants and attractions. The approach positions the mall as an experience-led destination rather than simply a traditional shopping centre.
For Spyder, the challenge will be to turn its heritage into contemporary relevance. The brand must appeal to committed skiers looking for technical performance while also attracting consumers drawn to ski-inspired fashion and winter lifestyle clothing. A carefully managed full-price store could help bridge those audiences by combining product authority with a more accessible shopping environment.
The opening is also an important test of Outdoor Collective’s stewardship. After the disruption caused by the Liberated Brands bankruptcy, the company is responsible for rebuilding operational momentum, supporting wholesale partners and ensuring that Spyder remains visible in a competitive global ski market.
No grand-opening date or further store locations have yet been confirmed. Even so, the Mall of America launch signals that Spyder is returning to physical retail with a more controlled and focused approach.
For a brand built around snow, racing and mountain performance, the new store places Spyder in a prominent year-round retail environment—one designed to capture attention long before customers reach the ski slopes.
