Arlberg Mountain Railways: Arthur Moser takes over as CEO

Arlberger Bergbahnen AG has officially appointed Arthur Moser to its executive board, establishing a new dual-leadership structure for the renowned Tyrolean cable car operator. Moser, who has served as an authorized officer with the company since July 2021, joins long-standing CEO Mario Stedile-Foradori at the helm. The executive transition is designed to guarantee the company's future development and ensure it remains economically solid and responsible.

The leadership reshuffle arrives at a critical juncture for the historic ski area, closely following the outright dismissal of rumors regarding a potential foreign takeover. Speculation had recently mounted that US corporate giants—such as Vail Resorts, which acquired Swiss destinations Andermatt-Sedrun and Crans-Montana in recent years—were eyeing a stake in the Arlberg region. The chatter prompted the municipality of St. Anton to formally inquire about a potential sale. However, following a supervisory board meeting in early September 2026, Stedile-Foradori firmly rejected the rumors, reassuring local stakeholders that the company's structure would remain unchanged. The majority ownership will stay securely in the hands of the Stedile-Foradori and Schmidt-Chiari families.

The appointment of Moser also signals the beginning of a generational changing of the guard. Mario Stedile-Foradori, often regarded as a grand seigneur of the Austrian cable car industry, has led Arlberger Bergbahnen for 55 years. While he intends to remain as the chairman of the board for now, he has indicated plans to gradually step back in the coming years, explicitly noting that his tenure will not reach the 60-year mark. By elevating Moser to the executive suite, Stedile-Foradori aims to broaden the management structure and provide entrepreneurial continuity for the company, which has operated as an international flagship for the sector since its founding in 1937.

Before his tenure at Arlberger Bergbahnen, Arthur Moser built an extensive resume in the alpine tourism and cable car sectors. His background includes executive and board-level roles at Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen AG, Ski amadé, and the Hauser Kaibling ski area. With this wealth of industry experience, Moser will now share the responsibility of steering one of Austria’s most prestigious ski destinations through a rapidly evolving European market.
