Sebastian Holzmann retires

Sebastian Holzmann is retiring from alpine ski racing. The slalom specialist made this decision after the end of the current season.
"I fought very hard to get back to racing after my injuries," says Sebastian Holzmann. "Because racing is and always will be my greatest passion. However, in recent weeks it has become clear to me that I can no longer pursue my sport with the utmost dedication. Since that has always been my goal, it's better to stop and dedicate myself to new challenges. Sebastian Holzmann participated in two World Championships during his career, achieving his best result with fifth place in the 2023 World Championship slalom in Courchevel. The soldier-athlete competed in a total of 77 World Cup races. His best result was 11th place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora in 2018. He finished in the points in a total of 26 World Cup races.
: "I want to use the next few months to reorient myself," says Sebastian Holzmann. "Starting an apprenticeship or university studies is a possibility. In any case, I want to get involved in ski instruction. Because skiing will always be a part of my life."
DSV Sports Director Wolfgang Maier said "With Sebastian Holzmann, an outstanding racer is ending his career. In recent years, Sebastian was on the verge of establishing himself at the top of slalom racing several times before being set back by serious injuries. Nevertheless, Sebastian never let himself get discouraged and always fought his way back. We regret his decision, but respect it and wish Sebastian all the best for the future."
Born in Bad Wörishofen, Bavaria, Holzman made his World Cup debut in January 2014 at age twenty and his best result is an eleventh place in March 2018 at Kranjska Gora.
He has competed in two World Championships, and finished fifth in the slalom event in 2023.
