In his role as Alpine Director, Mark will help strengthen performance oversight of the British Alpine team, enhancing alignment and delivery across the whole Alpine programme. The appointment has been made possible as a result of the support of both the GB Alpine Foundation and Tenzing as Principal Partner of GB Snowsport’s Alpine programme. Mark will carry out his role in addition to his existing commitments to Apex2100, where he serves as Academy Director. In his work as GB Snowsport Alpine Director will take a comprehensive focus on the breadth of the British Alpine system, including all clubs, academies, and development pathways that support emerging British Alpine talent.
Vicky Gosling OBE, GB Snowsport Chief Executive said of the appointment: “We are thrilled to welcome Mark to GB Snowsport, and are hugely grateful to Mark, Tenzing, and the GB Alpine Foundation for making this appointment possible. Mark’s standing in Alpine skiing is unparalleled and I am confident we will benefit enormously from his expertise as we prepare for what promises to be another exciting season for British athletes at every level of Alpine skiing. We also appreciate Apex2100’s understanding in supporting Mark to undertake this role alongside his responsibilities to their Academy”
Juliet Foster, GB Snowsport Alpine Discipline Committee Chair said: “Mark is held in extremely high regard by the Alpine community and it is a real boost to British Alpine skiing to be able to make an appointment of this calibre to the Alpine Director role. After a phenomenally successful last four years for the British Alpine team, we felt the time was right to bring new leadership capabilities into the system, and Mark’s experience, passion for the sport, and reputation fit the bill perfectly.”
Mark Tilston added: “More than a decade on from my last stint with the British team, I am delighted to be returning as Alpine Director. We’ve all seen the extraordinary journey that British Alpine skiing has been on over recent years, and the levels of talent and potential that exist within the team make this one of the most exciting jobs in international snowsport. I’m honoured to have been afforded this opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
