Grindelwald-Pfingstegg cable car: Record financial year 2025
19/May/2026
In the 2025 financial year, the Grindelwald-Pfingstegg AG cable car company achieved an operating income of CHF 4.98 million, the highest turnover in the company's history.
Compared to the previous record year of 2024, this represents an increase of just over 20%, or approximately CHF 0.84 million. The toboggan run, the resort's most important unique selling point, made a key contribution with a turnover of CHF 1.0 million, representing growth of 16.9% compared to the previous year. The Fly-Line also continued its very positive development, achieving CHF 0.79 million in revenue, a 32.6% increase compared to 2024. High demand from individual guests, favorable weather conditions, and the consistent focus on an attractive overall offering formed the basis for this exceptional result.
During the reporting year, the cable car system was also modernized. This included the procurement of new cabins, the installation of station saddles at the valley and mountain stations, and the conversion of cabin access to a fully automated boarding and disembarking system. These investments contribute to further increasing operational safety, efficiency in daily operations, and passenger comfort.
Operations and Traffic:
In the 2025 financial year, the Grindelwald-Pfingstegg AG cable car operated for a total of 170 days, from May 10th to October 26th. The season was characterized by very high occupancy rates from the outset, which continued throughout the summer and led to new visitor records by the end of the season. This solidified the Pfingstegg cable car's position as a highly sought-after tourist destination and an important component of the region's tourism offerings.
During its 170 days of operation, the cable car
transported a total of 272,650 people. Compared to the previous year, with 256,553 passengers, this represents an increase of 6.3%. Compared to the five-year average, this is an increase of 77.5%.
The toboggan run
opened on May 15th and once again performed very well throughout the season. With a total of 143,273 rides, it achieved an increase of 13.9% compared to the previous year. For the first time in the history of the facility, more than 140,000 rides were recorded – a new all-time record. As a key unique selling point of Pfingstegg, the toboggan run makes a significant contribution to the high appeal of the resort and has a lasting impact on the guest experience.
Fly-Line:
The Fly-Line confirmed its continued high popularity in its seventh year of operation. A total of 68,639 rides were recorded in fiscal year 2025, representing an increase of 8.2% compared to the previous year. With the increasing age of the system, more intensive maintenance work became necessary for the first time; in addition, the elevator cable is now replaced annually to ensure safe and reliable operation in the long term. Prices were slightly increased for 2025, the first time since the opening.
Outlook:
The Pfingstegg cable car company plans to build a parking garage, thereby creating additional parking spaces near the center of Grindelwald. A corresponding building permit application is currently under review. In connection with this project, the operations building, which houses the valley station, will also be expanded to include storage rooms and a larger ticket office. The parking garage is estimated to cost 2.1 million Swiss francs and is scheduled for completion by 2027.
