Alpine Star Corinne Suter Steps into New Role as Ship Godmother in Flüelen

Ski racer Corinne Suter traded the snow for the shoreline this past weekend, showcasing her elegant side at a historic maritime ceremony in the canton of Uri.

Dressed in a stylish black outfit and carrying a vibrant bouquet of flowers, the 31-year-old Alpine skiing champion officially christened a new ship with the historically significant name "AXEN" during a celebration in Flüelen.

"Pride and Gratitude"

Shortly after the ceremony, Suter took to social media to share her excitement with her followers, posting a glimpse of the event on Instagram.

"With pride and gratitude, I christened this ship as its godmother," the visibly proud athlete shared.

Along with her blessings, she bestowed upon the vessel the traditional nautical wishes for a safe journey: "Fair winds, smooth seas, and many successful voyages."

The name "AXEN" carries deep regional roots, inevitably evoking the historic Axenstrasse—the famous, steep cliffside road that runs along the lake's edge not far from where the ship was baptized.

A Deep Connection to the Water

Suter’s role as a ship sponsor on Lake Lucerne is no coincidence. While she is globally recognized for mastering frozen slopes, the Central Switzerland native has long harbored a deep passion for the water.

  • Summer 2021: Suter successfully completed her motorboat license.

  • Free Time: Since then, she has spent as much time as possible acting as a boat captain on her local Swiss lakes.

The elegant event caught the attention of the broader sports world, drawing praise from fans and fellow athletes alike. Teammate Aline Danioth was among the first to celebrate the milestone, enthusiastically commenting on the event with a supportive, "very cool!!!"

Back to the Grind

The glamorous weekend offers a brief, picturesque interlude for Suter, who is already shifting her focus back to her primary passion. The Swiss speed specialist is reportedly already back at work in the weight room, shifting her energy from the captain's wheel back to intensive summer training for the upcoming Alpine skiing season.
