Adelboden: receives Cantonal loan for the Direttissima gondola lift

A direct gondola lift is planned to run from Adelboden Oey (Fuhrenweidli) to Sillerenbühl. The cantonal government is supporting the project by Bergbahnen Adelboden AG with a loan of 5 million Swiss francs as part of its new regional policy.

With the Direttissima project, a new cable car system is being built in the Adelboden-Lenk ski area that will significantly simplify and speed up access to the mountain. The future 10-passenger Fuhrenweidli-Sillerenbühl gondola lift will connect the Oey valley station directly with Sillerenbühl, creating a noticeable improvement for winter sports enthusiasts and guests alike in the summer season.

Shorter distances, clear lines

One of the main aims of the new gondola lift for Bergbahnen Adelboden-Lenk AG together with Garaventa is to provide direct access to the area. In future, the journey time from the valley station to the mountain station will be around ten minutes – around 15 minutes less than with the previous cable car connection. This will make access to the skiing, hiking and biking area easier, clearer and more attractive.

The new installation will be an AURO lift of the D-Line generation. Over an inclined length of around 3.6 kilometers, it will climb 713 vertical meters and achieve a transport capacity of up to 2,200 passengers per hour with 74 modern 10-passenger cabins.

Unbundling and convenience

An important aspect of the project is the unbundling of traffic flows in the Adelboden-Lenk area. The new direct connection will eliminate waiting times at critical points such as the Bergläger station, especially on busy winter days. The existing Bergläger-Sillerenbühl route will remain in operation and complement the new system.

In addition to performance, the focus is also on comfort, reliability and clear visitor guidance. The gondola lift therefore contributes to smoother daily operations.

Step towards a year-round destination

The Direttissima is not just a project for the winter. The shorter journey time and improved accessibility also increase the attractiveness of the area in the warmer months. Hikers, bikers and day visitors will benefit from easy access to the mountain. Facilities such as the Sillerenbühl restaurant can be reached spontaneously, and the adventure area around the mountain gains in importance.

A project with a view to the future

The new gondola lift in Adelboden-Lenk is an important building block for sustainable access to the area. The Direttissima combines efficiency, comfort and year-round suitability, thus contributing to the long-term development of the region.

Adelboden-Lenk is one of the larger tourist destinations in the Bernese Oberland. The mountain railways form the central backbone of the tourism value chain and employ around 350 people in the winter season and around 150 in the summer season. The Sillerenbühl area significantly shapes the attractiveness and competitiveness of the Adelboden-Lenk region and will be further strengthened by the new gondola lift.
