Tegernsee Triathlon celebrated its 27th edition with overhaul under brand-new title sponsorship with global sporting goods giant Scott.

The Tegernsee Triathlon celebrated its 27th edition over the weekend, debuting a premier structural overhaul under a brand-new title sponsorship with global sporting goods giant Scott.

Rebranded as the Scott Tegernsee Triathlon, the July 5 event drew approximately 1,300 endurance athletes to Lake Tegernsee, located just south of Munich. The race served as a prime case study for how major outdoor brands are increasingly leveraging regional, high-profile endurance events to secure direct product proximity and build community with high-spending consumer segments.

Strategic Infrastructure Overhaul

The 2026 iteration marked the first time the historic race was managed by event organizer Mission Homerun, which introduced several logistical updates to modernize the athlete experience.

Chief among the changes was the implementation of a controlled rolling start for the open-water swim phase. Rather than a chaotic single-wave mass start, organizers launched an initial group of 50 competitors, followed by clusters of three athletes entering the water every five seconds. The system successfully thinned out the field early on, reducing congestion along the course and earning positive feedback from participants.

Athletes competed across two primary formats, both available as individual races or multi-person relays:

  • Sprint Distance: A 600-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and 5-kilometer run.

  • Olympic Distance: A 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run.

Expanding the Race Footprint

Beyond the course itself, Mission Homerun expanded the event's village footprint at Seeglas in Gmund. The venue featured a fully redesigned athlete transition area, an enlarged commercial exhibition space, and newly introduced, dedicated post-race physiotherapy stations.

While Scott anchored the weekend as the primary partner, a network of specialized vendors filled out the event's ecosystem, including Physiorelax (Recovery & Performance Partner), Chimpanzee (Nutrition Partner), and regional supplier Radlcenter Stöckl, which managed on-site technical bike services.

"For us as organizers of the Scott Tegernsee Triathlon, the goal was to take the event to a new level," said Andreas Schauer, co-organizer at Mission Homerun. "This was only possible with the support of our local partners and our fantastic team of volunteers, who are just as passionate about this event as we are."

Following the successful execution of the new format, organizers have already confirmed that the event will return next year, with the 2027 edition scheduled for the weekend of July 11–12.
