Garaventa cable car day held in Hoch-Ybrig – TRI-Line in focus
14/July/2026
Record-breaking heat met a record-breaking crowd in the Swiss Alps as ropeway manufacturer Garaventa celebrated a massively successful 2026 Cable Car Day (Seilbahntag).
Despite a intense summer heatwave, more than 130 industry professionals gathered in the Hoch-Ybrig ski and hiking region, setting an all-time attendance record for the annual industry event. The high-profile crowd brought together technical managers, maintenance specialists, and decision-makers from cable car operators alongside Garaventa’s own project managers from sales, service, and engineering.
In the Spotlight: The World’s First TRI-Line
The undisputed star of this year’s event was the newly implemented Weglosen–Seebli TRI-Line ropeway system. Officially operating in Hoch-Ybrig, this installation represents a massive technological leap forward for the industry, combining the extreme wind stability of a three-cable (3S) system with the compact footprint and efficiency of Doppelmayr’s D-Line generation.
Participants spent the day inspecting the world-first system up close. Garaventa's design and installation teams were on hand at multiple staging areas to provide first-hand, detailed insights:
The Infrastructure: Deep-dives into the highly compact layout of both the valley and mountain stations.
The Technology: Detailed breakdowns of the system's cutting-edge Connect control architecture.
The Rolling Stock: Technical inspections of the high-comfort, barrier-free cabins, which are designed for optional autonomous operation (AURO).
"The TRI-Line Hoch-Ybrig project is a generational project—for us and for the entire region," noted Urs Keller, Managing Director of Hoch-Ybrig AG, who led a central presentation detailing the intense construction phase and the challenges of replacing the region's historic 1970 aerial tramway.
Digital Portals and Alpine Safety
Beyond the physical hardware of the TRI-Line, the event’s educational program featured critical expert presentations addressing the digital and safety challenges facing modern alpine transit.
Ropeway specialists attended sessions focusing on the Doppelmayr Group’s integrated customer portal—demonstrating how modern data hubs streamline parts management, documentation, and fleet diagnostics. A second highly technical track addressed strict new standards and engineering protocols regarding fire protection in cable cars, a topic drawing immense interest from safety managers in attendance.
