Virginia’s Mountain Sports Sets Closing Date

Mountain Sports Ltd., located in Bristol, VA, announced plans to close its store at the end of September as its owners head to retirement. The family-owned outdoor store first opened in 1981.

The store, serving Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee through its store at 1061 Commonwealth Ave, is now run by brothers Bobby and Steve Cheers. The store was founded by their parents, Bob and Alice Cheers. The store focuses on biking, fly fishing, camping, kayaking and climbing.

The store’s planned closure was initially announced in May, with the store initially expected to close in late June or July. On September 9, the Cheers’ brothers announced on social media that they’re extending the closing date to September 30 to support customers with outstanding gift cards or store credit.

The owners again thanked the community for their support over the years. The post read in part, “The Cheers family wants to once again thank everyone who has supported us over the years. For 45 years, this community has supported our family and Mountain Sports Ltd., and we are incredibly grateful for the friendships, memories, and adventures that came along with it.”
