TIME TO GET BACK ON SKIS AND SHARE THE VIBE: TIGNES OPENS FOR WINTER 2026-27

Tignes opens for the new winter season on 21 November 2026, running through to 2 May 2027. It is, in short, time to get back on skis and share the Tignes vibes both on and off the mountain. The upcoming season promises an art installation beneath the ice, new dining experiences and a season of epic events built around freestyle, inclusion and a World Championships.

WHAT'S NEW

Art beneath the ice. From 15 December 2026 to 13 February 2027, the installation "Ici commence l'océan" submerges paintings of polar bears, belugas, cachalots, emperor penguins and Greenland sharks beneath the frozen surface of Lake Tignes, at 2,100m. It is created on plexiglas by artist Laurence Chilin with explorer Alban Michon. From 13 February, the exhibition continues along the lakeshore as an educational trail exploring the link between glaciers, water and marine ecosystems. Dining inside a glass dome
Les Suites du Montana, Tignes' five-star hotel, launches La Bulle this winter: an intimate and cosy, glass-walled dining dome for just eight guests, where chef Malik El Khattari will prepare a seven-course exquisite menu (€135). The menu changes weekly and is inspired by French culinary heritage, Occitan influences and contemporary creativity. A yurt on the mountain, after dark
Throughout the season, the ESF ski school in Tignes runs its Magical Yurt Escape: catch a ride on a grooming-machine to the Chaudanne plateau, where a snow-covered yurt at 2,300m hosts a classic mountain dinner including the ever-popular tartiflette or croziflette, wood-fired soup and to finish it off, a small digestif. The perfect set-up before a moonlit sledge ride back down. Outings run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, priced at €95 per adult and €65 per child (minimum age is six). Le Seyjoun: a new model for mountain living
Opening in November 2026, Le Seyjoun is a residential complex in Tignes-le-Lac built for seasonal workers, targeting NF Habitat HQE ("Excellent") and BBCA ("High Performance") certification. The €17 million project, delivered by Tignes Développement and S.A.S. Développement as part of the resort's "Transition 2030" strategy, includes 70 new flats, bicycle storage for every home, a communal lift, a laundry room, a childcare centre and parking - albeit limited to favour the use of public transport. ALTTA, the joint venture established by Tignes and Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise in January 2025 and operational since June 2026, is investing in modernising the ski area and expanding non-skiing activities such as walking trails, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. A Winter of Epic Events Para-Alpine Skiing World Championships - 7 to 19 March 2027

Tignes has long been a pioneer in the field of Para-Skiing and is therefore particularly honoured to host the FIS Para-Alpine Skiing World Championships at the Lognan Stadium. Held every two years and taking place in France for the first time, the championships bring together around 30 nations and 110 athletes across five disciplines (super-G, downhill, giant slalom, slalom and alpine combined) and three categories: standing, sit-ski and visually impaired. Now in its second edition, Winter Fest is shaping up as a highlight of snowboarding culture: snowboarding sessions, a photo exhibition, six film screenings over two evenings, concerts and free freestyle taster sessions. The 2027 edition adds skateboarding demos and contests at the indoor Tignespace skatepark. Mountain Shaker - 17 to 22 January 2027

Tignes' freestyle fixture returns for a sixth edition. Hot on the heels of the Winter Fest, the Mountain Shaker takes place a little earlier in the season instead of its normal March slot, but will still be hosting a Ski Big Air World Cup and a Snowboard Big Air World Cup. It is all taking place in the same spot, the stadium in Val Claret, in front of up to 5,000 freestyle fans, with fireworks and a concert closing the week. Tignes Unlimited Festival - 24 April to 2 May 2027

The festival returns for a third year, closing the season in true Tignes style: skiing by day, and DJ sets on-slope and across the resort by night. Expect open-air parties against a backdrop of spring sunshine and snow, and the party carrying on from the mountain restaurants down into the village long after the lifts close. The full line-up will be released in 2027, but the promise is the same as ever - a week of good music, good company and the last of the season's vibes, right through to the closing brunch.
