New Summit Building, Murals, & Machinery at Sugar Mountain Resort

From top to bottom and even in between, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is making improvements! The original Summit House built in 1969 has been demolished and is currently undergoing a complete rebuild. The new 5,400 square foot glass building will house a ski/snowboard patrol ready area on the lower level. The second floor will boast a mid-to-upper-tier year-round restaurant with a bird’s-eye view of the North Carolina High Country from the 5,300’ pinnacle.

Meanwhile, muralist Ashley Roberts completed the three-phase beautification plan of the Summit Express parking garage. The bigger-than-life-size lift & trail system map of Sugar Mountain’s 125 skiable acre resort decorates the front wall, while the loading-side wall features the dynamic and famous American ski racer, Spider Sabich rushing down Tom Terrific in the 1970’s during a pro race.

Plus, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort’s snowmaking infrastructure continues to advance with the replacement of eighteen-hundred feet of decades-old snowmaking pipes on Laurel Lane and the installation of three new fully automated SMI super pole cat snowmaking machines. One at the three-quarter point of Flying Mile, another at the bottom of Little Nell, and a third on the top of Fanny Hill, a popular meeting point on Easy Street. A new Pisten Bully 600 Winch Cat joined the snow groomer fleet and the mission to transform 100% of the slope’s night lights to LED is halfway to completion.
