NEW from sitour, piste signs made of hemp

With its new hemp-based piste markers, sitour expands its ski slope infrastructure with a sustainable alternative to conventional signage materials. The hemp, sourced from Tyrol, combines regional value creation with the functional requirements of the ski resort.

Sustainability has long been a key aspect of the daily operations of many cable car companies. Now, sitour is also relying on a renewable resource for a classic piece of slope infrastructure. Together with SONA Green Composites, sitour is developing slope boards made of hemp for use in ski resorts.

Natural fiber expertise for ski slope infrastructure

SONA Green Composites is an Innsbruck-based company focusing on natural fiber composites. It combines renewable raw materials with modern technologies and innovative manufacturing processes to develop environmentally responsible signage.

Through the collaboration between sitour and SONA, this expertise is now being specifically applied to alpine ski slope infrastructure. SONA manufactures piste signs exclusively for sitour using hemp grown and naturally processed in Tyrol. This allows sitour to complement the conventional materials used in its proven signs for orientation and safety on ski slopes with a resource-saving alternative.

Sustainable raw material for use in the mountains

Regional hemp, as a bio-based rather than fossil-based and annually renewable raw material, offers compelling functionality, stability, and durable material properties, combined with regional value creation and a significantly reduced CO₂ footprint. Furthermore, the proven weather and UV resistance of this natural material meets the stringent requirements for long-term use under varying weather conditions in ski resorts.
