Cable car technology apprenticeship at the Arlberg mountain railways

There's great cause for celebration at the Arlberg cable car company: Apprentice cable car technicians Maximilian Mauerer and Moritz Goldammer have completed their second year of training with excellent results.

Their enthusiasm for the profession impressively demonstrates the diverse nature of an apprenticeship at the Arlberg cable car company.

“I find maintenance and inspections particularly exciting because you have to look very closely. It’s interesting to see how much technology is actually behind our cable car systems,” Max explains.

Moritz is also enthusiastic about his apprenticeship:

“What I like most is the variety and that I can work outdoors in the mountains a lot.” His goals for the rest of his apprenticeship: “Of course, I want to complete my apprenticeship successfully and learn as much as possible in the meantime.”

The training to become a cable car technician combines technical expertise with varied practical assignments on the mountain. The alternation between vocational school and daily work allows our apprentices to apply their knowledge directly in practice.

For our apprenticeship officer Franz Laimer, the training of young skilled workers is also a matter close to his heart: “It is wonderful to see how they grow from young people whose career path is still uncertain into good employees – and of course, we hope that they will remain valuable employees with us.”

The Arlberg cable car company places great importance on the development of young people. “Completing an apprenticeship needs to be valued more highly – if you do a good apprenticeship, you can really climb the career ladder, for example to operations manager or technical manager,” says Philomena Schönewolf, Head of Human Resources.

In this sense, the company offers a wide range of training opportunities and invests specifically in the skilled workers of tomorrow, as Stefan Klotz, Technical Director, emphasizes: “In times of skilled labor shortages, it is even more important to motivate young people. Cable cars differ in that the range of training is much broader – from electrical engineering to customer service, the apprentice contributes to the satisfaction of the guests.”

Currently, five apprentices are completing their training at the Arlberg cable car company – four in cable car technology and one in the hospitality industry. At the start of the new training year, more apprentices will join the team and begin their professional careers.
