New facilities and services improve connections, comfort and hospitality in the Latemar ski area

For Latemar Dolomites, part of the Dolomiti Superski network and encompassing the resorts of Obereggen in South Tyrol and Pampeago and Predazzo in Trentino, the upcoming winter season is all about investment and modernization. The ski area is continuing its program to modernize its lifts. The measures affect both sides of the Pampeago and Obereggen ski areas and aim to improve transport capacity, efficiency, and comfort. This will be achieved by replacing outdated lifts and modernizing existing infrastructure.
The modernization process began last year in Pampeago. There, Itap SpA Pampeago, owner of the lifts, replaced the historic Latemar chairlift. This chairlift had been in operation for 37 years, having been commissioned in 1988. It was replaced by a new ten-person gondola lift from Doppelmayr. The lift connects the valley station at 1,760 meters with the mountain station at 2,015 meters. The route is 1,085 meters long and overcomes a vertical drop of 255 meters.
In the summer, the investment program focused on Obereggen. There, the historic four-seater chairlift "Obereggen," crucial for the connection between Obereggen and Pampeago, was replaced by a new eight-seater chairlift from Leitner. The new lift is 500 meters long, overcomes a vertical drop of 93 meters, reaches a speed of 4.5 meters per second, and can transport up to 2,800 people per hour. The journey takes one minute and 52 seconds. This project contributes to making the connections between the Eggental and the Fiemme Valley more efficient.
Also in Obereggen, the "Eben" drag lift at the base of the ski lifts was replaced by a new Leitner lift. The 479-meter-long drag lift overcomes a vertical drop of 105 meters and provides access to an easy slope, particularly suitable for beginners.
“These new facilities are two key components of a broader project to replace the existing lifts,” explains Benjamin Kirchmaier, Managing Director of Obereggen Latemar SpA. “The project is part of a comprehensive redesign of our ski area, with the valley station in Obereggen at its heart. Here, in addition to the new ‘Eben’ T-bar lift, the new ‘Brunoland’ children’s park is also being built. The aim is to provide an even better experience for our guests and enhance their overall enjoyment. At the same time, we intend to improve safety, comfort, and transport capacity for skiers and hikers.”
New features for the upcoming season also include the "Fun Lines": nine routes distributed across the ski area, designed to offer a varied experience in the snow with banked turns, waves and small jumps.
“The Latemar Dolomites ski area is one of the outstanding ski resorts within Dolomiti Superski,” commented Valeria Ghezzi, President of the Italian cable car association ANEF. “Here, great commitment has always been invested and worked to ensure reliable snowmaking and a wide range of slopes right from the start of the season. The latest measures confirm the commitment to continuously improving the efficiency of the connections and thus further enhancing the quality of the offering for skiers.”
