REKKIE Unveils 2027 Smart Ski Goggles with Sharper Display and Major Performance Upgrades

The race to bring wearable technology onto the slopes has taken another step forward, with REKKIE unveiling its 2027-generation smart snow goggles featuring a substantially upgraded display, longer battery life and significantly increased computing power.

The Cincinnati-based company, which has carved out a niche in the growing smart eyewear segment of the snow sports market, is positioning the latest model as an evolutionary upgrade rather than a complete redesign. The new goggles retain the existing frame, fit and magnetic lens system while introducing substantial improvements to the electronics package hidden inside the goggles.

We’ve sold out each of the past three holiday seasons. Pre-orders come from our first production run, so there’s a set number. It’s one order per household, and REKKIE is better with your crew on the map, so add a pair for everyone you ride with. The price goes to $449 at launch on Sat, Nov 14.

  • Nearly 80% more pixels. A much sharper display makes the Mini Map crisp and easy to read at a glance: trails, lifts, run names and your crew, in flat light or bright sun.

  • Up to 18+ hours of battery. A new battery controller keeps you going from first chair to last.

  • 5x the working memory.Plus 50% more storage, with room for more maps and more features.

  • A tougher electronics enclosure. Redesigned for better water resistance and durability, so it holds up on storm days and hard falls.

At the heart of the update is a new heads-up display featuring a resolution increase from 240 x 120 pixels to 320 x 160 pixels, providing nearly 80 percent more pixels than the previous generation. According to the company, the higher-resolution display makes trail maps, lift networks, run names and real-time location information easier to read in varying mountain conditions, from flat light to bright sunshine.

The development comes as digital navigation and connected experiences continue to gain traction within the winter sports industry. Skiers increasingly rely on smartphone mapping applications and resort navigation tools, creating opportunities for wearable technologies that keep information within the rider's field of view without requiring a phone to be removed from a pocket.

REKKIE's core selling point remains its integrated "Mini Map" feature, which places trail maps for ski resorts directly into the heads-up display. The company says the system supports nearly every ski resort worldwide, offering real-time navigation without the need to continually consult a handheld device.

Beyond display improvements, the 2027 model introduces a new battery management system delivering up to 18 hours of operation, an important enhancement for skiers spending full days on the mountain or participating in multi-day trips. The company has also increased working memory fivefold and expanded storage capacity by 50 percent, creating room for additional mapping data and future software features.

Durability has also become a focus. The electronics enclosure has been redesigned to improve water resistance and impact protection, reflecting the reality that smart equipment must withstand severe winter weather, crashes and repeated use in demanding alpine environments.

One notable aspect of the launch is backward compatibility. Existing owners of REKKIE products will be able to use their current Spekter 3.0 magnetic lenses and accessories with the new goggles, reducing the cost of upgrading and helping protect previous customer investments.

The company is offering subscriber pre-orders at US$399 ahead of a planned retail launch price of US$449, with shipments scheduled to begin on 16 November. REKKIE noted that it has sold out during each of the past three holiday seasons and that initial orders will be fulfilled from a limited first production run.

As augmented reality, GPS-based navigation and wearable displays continue to move into mainstream skiing, products such as the 2027 REKKIE highlight a broader trend toward connected mountain experiences. While traditional goggle manufacturers have focused primarily on optics and protection, a growing number of technology-driven brands are seeking to transform goggles into information platforms capable of enhancing navigation, safety and social connectivity on the slopes.

With improved hardware, extended battery life and sharper mapping capabilities, the latest release suggests that smart eyewear is becoming an increasingly significant category within the winter sports equipment market.
