Gasteiner Bergbahnen Back Long-Term Leadership Stability with Innerhofer Extension

At a time when alpine tourism operators are navigating economic uncertainty, climate adaptation challenges and significant infrastructure investment cycles, Austria's Gasteiner Bergbahnen has chosen continuity at the top. The company has extended the mandate of Chief Executive Andreas Innerhofer by a further five years, securing his leadership until 30 June 2032.

The decision was approved unanimously by the supervisory board during its meeting on 2 October 2026, extending a contract that had originally been due to expire in June 2027. Innerhofer has served as Chairman of the Management Board since 1 July 2022, working alongside fellow board member Benjamin Rogl.

Clear Commitment to Continuity

The supervisory board said the early extension reflects confidence in the leadership team's performance over recent years and signals a commitment to continuity at the company's highest level. The unanimous decision reinforces stability as the mountain lift operator prepares for future development projects.

Gasteiner Bergbahnen is a key player in Salzburg's Gastein Valley, operating lift infrastructure that serves both winter sports and year-round tourism. Across the Alpine industry, long-term leadership appointments are increasingly viewed as essential for managing major capital projects, sustainability initiatives and destination development strategies.

Growth Despite Challenging Conditions

Responding to the extension, Innerhofer thanked the supervisory board for its confidence and highlighted the achievements made since his arrival in 2022. He noted that numerous projects had been successfully delivered despite what he described as, at times, very challenging economic conditions.

According to Innerhofer, the company is already preparing the next phase of investment, with several projects currently in planning stages and others already progressing through approval procedures.

The executive also emphasised the contribution of employees across the organisation, describing the company's progress as a team achievement and expressing optimism about the years ahead.

Looking Towards the Next Decade

The extension gives Gasteiner Bergbahnen a stable leadership framework through the early 2030s, a period likely to see continued investment in mountain infrastructure, guest experience enhancements and four-season tourism offerings across the Austrian Alps.

For the company, the decision provides strategic consistency at a time when many mountain destinations are balancing growth ambitions with evolving environmental and economic realities. By securing Innerhofer's leadership well in advance of his previous contract expiry, Gasteiner Bergbahnen is sending a clear message that it intends to maintain momentum on its current development path.
