First to Open on the West Coast, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe Kicks-Off the Winter Season Friday, Nov. 6

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe will be the first ski area open on the west coast for the 2026-27 winter season thanks to early season snow and cold temperatures that have allowed for snowmaking operations to get underway. The Lakeview Express lift will start spinning at 9:00 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 6.

“We’re excited to get winter started, and to again offer skiers and snowboarders another six month season. Mt Rose - Ski Tahoe can boast one of the longest ski seasons in Tahoe with operations from early November until almost May,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe marketing director. “Recent snow paired with our extensive snowmaking efforts, the highest base area elevation in Tahoe at 8,260’, plus more snow in the extended forecast means early season conditions are ready to roll for the first turns of the season.”

For opening day, planned lift operations include the Lakeview Express from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering access to long intermediate level trails on the Main Lodge side of the mountain. Open trails will include Kit Carson Traverse, Kit Carson Bowl, Ponderosa and potentially more runs as snowmaking continues this week. Skiers and riders should anticipate early season conditions and snowmaking operations in progress.

Beginner terrain will be available on opening day, but it will be limited to the Show-Off area near the main lodge. It is anticipated that the Magic Conveyor lift will be open to service this terrain.

All parking will be available at the Main Lodge, and services will include the Lodgepole Cafe, Higher Grounds Coffee Bar, and Timbers. Equipment Rentals & the Tuning Center will be open as well as ski & snowboard lessons. Lifts spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lodge operations starting at 8 a.m.

Advanced online lift tickets are available at skirose.com and Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe Season Passes are still available. Additional terrain and resort services are expected to open as snowmaking operations continue at every opportunity that conditions permit.

Please note Wildslide Tahoe snowtubing will not be open. The projected opening date for Wildslide Tahoe will be Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. Please visit Wildslidetahoe.com for updates.

Visit skirose.com for snow, terrain and lift operations reports, and to purchase lift tickets or a 2026-27 season pass.
