Alta Badia as told by the people who live there

A decorator, a cableway operator, a pastry chef and a pioneer of mountain hospitality: these are the protagonists of the 2026/27 winter edition of Nos Ladins – We Ladins. The initiative gives holidaymakers in Alta Badia, in the heart of the Dolomites a UNESCO World Heritage site, the chance to spend a few hours with local people, listen to their stories and learn something about their craft. Each of them carries a piece of Ladin culture, shaped by hard work, hospitality and a love for things done well.

The winter 2026/27 meetings:

Nature, crafts and creativity with Evelin

Born and raised in San Vigilio di Marebbe, Evelin now lives in Badia, where she runs a small hotel with her family. This is where she has found room for her great passion: creating welcoming spaces with careful attention to detail, using flowers and decorations. In her free time she loves the mountains and is a keen sommelier. On 18 December, 15 January and 19 February, from 3 pm to 5 pm, Evelin will welcome participants to Hotel Gran Ander and show them how to make a decoration for the home using natural materials, explaining how to choose and work with the different elements. It is an afternoon for experimenting and taking home a unique, handmade piece. Children aged 6 and over are also welcome at the workshop.

Backstage of the winter mountain with Luigi

Born in Badia, Luigi works in the cableway and renewable energy sector. When he is not working, he goes cycling or hunting, two passions that keep him closely connected to nature. On 19 January, 16 February and 16 March, from 4 pm to 6 pm, he will show participants what happens on the slopes when the skiers are gone: how technical snow is produced and how much work goes into snowmaking, what the job of a snow groomer involves and what it feels like to ride in a snowcat. The final meeting opens the doors of the new lift in Badia. The meeting point is the valley station of the La Crusc 1 cable car.

Where passion turns into pastry with Hannes

Hannes started working in pastry at just 15 and trained in the hotels of Alta Badia. Today he pursues his craft with creativity and respect for tradition. On 21 January, 25 February and 18 March, from 3 pm to 5 pm, he will be waiting for participants at Residence Costes to show them, step by step, the techniques and small tricks that make all the difference. Starting from simple ingredients, the afternoon leads to the traditional sweets of the valley and his own personal recipes.

Sixty years of stories with Moritz

Sixty years ago, Moritz opened the mountain hut that still welcomes skiers and hikers from all over the world, and he is one of the founders of the Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel. Few people know the history of tourism in Alta Badia as well as he does. On 27 January, 24 February and 3 March, from 10 am to 12 noon, Moritz will meet participants at the Piz La Ila valley station and ride up with them by gondola to the hut. There he will talk about how mountain hospitality has changed over the decades and share personal anecdotes about his hut. The meeting ends with an aperitif. The lift ticket is not included.

All meetings are held in Italian and German. For holders of the South Tyrol Guest Pass, participation costs €25.00 for adults and teenagers aged 13 and over; children aged 6 to 12 can join Evelin’s workshop for €15.00. Places are limited. Bookings can be made by the day before the event online at www.altabadia.org or at the Alta Badia tourist offices.
