Park City Mountain Unveils New Paid Parking Strategy for Canyons Village in 2026/27 Season
12/May/2026
Park City Mountain has announced a major overhaul of its arrival strategy for the 2026/27 winter season, headlined by the introduction of a daily $29 parking fee for the newly completed Canyons Village Parking Structure.
The move marks the end of the "free parking era" at the Canyons base, as the resort seeks to modernize its infrastructure, alleviate traffic congestion, and align the Canyons Village experience with the established parking model at Mountain Village.
A Strategy Driven by Data and Sustainability
The transition to a paid model for the Canyons Village garage is not a sudden shift, but a calculated response to rising traffic volumes in the S.R. 224 corridor. Resort officials noted that the plan draws directly from data collected at Mountain Village, where a similar reservation and paid parking system has successfully reduced congestion and encouraged the use of public transit.
"This is about streamlining the guest arrival experience," the resort stated in its announcement. "By transitioning the garage to a paid model, we can better manage the flow of vehicles and incentivize more sustainable transportation habits, such as carpooling and utilizing High Valley Transit."
Key Features of the 2026/27 Parking Plan
While the $29 flat fee is the most notable change, the new plan includes several flexibility measures designed to accommodate different types of visitors:
Midday Flexibility: To encourage arrivals outside of the morning peak, parking in the structure will be free for all guests after 12:00 p.m.
Carpool Incentives: Vehicles with four or more occupants will have access to dedicated free parking areas within the garage, though these spots remain subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis.
The "Surface Lot" Alternative: For those seeking to avoid the fee, the resort confirmed that limited free, first-come, first-served day-skier parking will remain available in the surface lot adjacent to the parking structure.
Seasonal Options: Frequent visitors will have the option to purchase a Winter Season Parking Pass, specifically for the Canyons Village structure. Pricing for this pass is expected to be released later this summer.
Employee Access: Designated spaces within the resort's parking network will remain free for staff members.
Part of a Larger Transformation
The parking fee coincides with the full completion of the multi-story Canyons Village Parking Structure and the debut of the Canyons Village Skyway Gondola. This new 10-person gondola will replace the aging Cabriolet Lift, providing a more efficient link between the lower parking areas and the central Canyons Village Forum.
During the upcoming Summer 2026 construction window, the garage will be closed to the public as crews finalize the upper levels and the gondola terminal.
Community Impact
While the resort emphasizes congestion relief, the shift has sparked discussion among local skiers who have long relied on free access at the Canyons base. Resort leadership maintains that the changes are necessary to ensure the long-term viability of the guest experience as Park City continues to grow as a premier global destination.
More details regarding reservations, season pass pricing, and transit partnerships are expected to be posted on the Park City Mountain website as the winter season approaches.
