Mountain Bike Industry Veteran And Athlete Alex Mcandrew Named Summer Operations Manager At Burke Mountain Resort

Burke Mountain Resort is proud to announce that professional mountain biker and Northeast Kingdom native Alex McAndrew has joined the team as Summer Operations Manager.

McAndrew brings more than 17 years of experience competing at the highest levels of downhill and enduro racing, including World Cup events, all while representing Transition Bicycle Company. His professional riding career is complemented by more than two decades of experience across the bike industry, including roles as a mechanic, trail builder, coach, engineer, guide, and business owner.

In his role as Summer Operations Manager, McAndrew will oversee trail operations, bike park development, events, and guest experience. Drawing on his global racing background and extensive industry connections, his focus is to elevate Burke Mountain’s standing as a premier East Coast riding destination.

A lifelong connection to Burke Mountain and the surrounding community makes his appointment especially meaningful. McAndrew grew up just over the hill in East Hardwick and has been skiing and snowboarding at Burke since 2002, starting with his first job shoveling snow in exchange for a season pass. After living out West to compete and work earlier in his career, he returned to the mountain in 2018 while building his now well-known suspension service company, Green Mountain Pro Tune.

“Many of my early days on a mountain bike were spent at Kingdom Trails, over 20 years ago,” said McAndrew. “It is such a unique system of trails that drives so much of our local and state economy. As we look to the future of Burke’s mountain bike offerings, we will work hand in hand with Kingdom Trails to make sure our trails and visions align and support each other.”

McAndrew has also played an active role in the regional trail community, serving on the Kingdom Trails Advisory Committee for the past three years, a role he will continue alongside his new position. Together with his wife, professional mountain bike athlete Ella Skalwold, he co-founded and grew Vermont Mountain Bike Tours, a guiding and coaching business rooted in their shared passion for the sport and the region.

Now raising their two children in Burke, McAndrew and his family are deeply invested in the future of the community.

“Alex brings an unmatched combination of world-class experience, industry knowledge, and authentic connection to Burke,” said Gabe Porter-Henry, General Manager at Burke Mountain Resort. “He understands both the culture of mountain biking and the values of this community. We’re excited to have him help lead the next chapter of summer operations at Burke.”

Located in the heart of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, Burke Mountain Resort is an independent, four-season destination, anchored by the Burke Mountain Hotel, featuring 116 all-suite rooms with ski-in/ski-out convenience. Burke delivers 178 acres of world-class skiing and riding in the winter, and lift-served mountain biking and hiking in the summer. Burke’s bike park is adjacent to Burke’s world-renowned Kingdom Trails network, a mecca for mountain bikers. Year-round, Burke hosts events and activities that reflect the culture and community of Vermont: down-to-earth, uncorporate, and driven by the spirit of the mountain and the people who ride it.
