Bollé Races into Trail Running with Ultra-Limited "Trailchaser" Launch
08/May/2026
Bollé Eyewear, a brand that has defined the outdoor optics landscape for over 135 years, has officially entered the trail running arena. To mark the occasion, the French heritage brand has unveiled the Trailchaser, a high-performance shield designed specifically for the rigors of technical off-road running.
In a move that highlights the model's exclusivity, the initial release is limited to just 300 individually numbered pairs worldwide.
The Trailchaser is not a modified cycling frame; it is a purpose-built tool for athletes navigating shifting light and high-intensity effort. Weighing in at an ultra-light 31 grams, the frame is designed to "disappear" on the face during long-distance efforts.
Key technical specifications include:
Phantom Photochromic Lens: The centerpiece of the model, these lenses automatically adjust to changing light conditions in seconds, providing clarity from the deep shade of a forest canopy to the blinding glare of a ridgeline.
Vented Shield Design: The cylindrical half-rim lens features precision laser-cut slits to maximize airflow and prevent fogging during peak exertion.
Fit-Tec Technology: Exclusive self-adaptive temples with 3-axis rotation ensure a customized fit, while adjustable Thermogrip rubber on the nose piece and temples actually becomes "grippier" as the athlete sweats.
While trail running is a new category for Bollé, the brand is no stranger to pioneering sports optics. Founded in 1888 in Oyonnax, France, Bollé was an early pioneer of molded nylon in the 1930s and helped define the modern ski goggle in 1960 and cycling eyewear in 1986.
"After leading the race in outdoor eyewear since 1888, Bollé is excited to enter trail running with a model designed to offer comfort, support, and optical precision to athletes who demand the highest standards in optical technology and performance," said Joe Godbout, Brand Manager at Bollé Eyewear.
The limited-edition release features two distinct aesthetic profiles: Inferno Trail (featuring the Phantom Clear Lava lens) and Arctic Blaze (featuring the Phantom Clear Ice lens). Both styles are finished with vibrant, hand-applied paint splashes, ensuring that no two frames in the 300-piece run look exactly alike. Each lens is uniquely engraved with its production number.
The Trailchaser launch signals Bollé’s intent to compete directly with boutique and established performance brands in the rapidly growing trail running market, which has seen a surge in demand for technical, high-wrap eyewear that balances weight with rugged durability.
