66th Annual General Meeting of Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG held
17/May/2026
At the 66th Annual General Meeting, the Board of Directors of Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG informed the shareholders about a financial year characterized by strong guest demand, positive economic development, significant construction and investment projects, concrete measures in energy and the environment, and targeted initiatives as an employer.
FISCAL YEAR 2024/25
Conditions:
Abundant snowfall in September and the efficient use of snow reserves created the previous winter enabled a particularly early start to the ski season on the Kitzsteinhorn: As early as October 5th, a week ahead of schedule, the first winter sports enthusiasts were carving their turns on the glacier slopes. Despite stable high-pressure weather with plenty of sunshine and below-average precipitation, excellent snow and slope conditions were maintained throughout the entire season. This was also reflected in the visitor numbers: Kitzsteinhorn, Maiskogel, and Lechnerberg recorded more guests than ever before in the 2024/25 ski season. The fact that this same result could be achieved for the 2025 summer season underscores the great popularity of the diverse range of nature-based activities and experiences available from Kaprun to the cool summit region of the Kitzsteinhorn at over 3,000 meters.
Figures and conclusion
With a total of 1,272,732 guests and total revenues of €72.9 million – increases of 3% and 6.5% respectively compared to the previous year – 2024/25 proved to be the strongest fiscal year in the company's history in terms of both visitors and revenue. "This success is primarily due to our employees, who give their best every day with great dedication and professionalism. They deserve our sincere thanks and recognition," said Managing Director Thomas Maierhofer. Strategically, the company remains committed to offering guests high-quality mountain experiences year-round. At the same time, it is important to maintain the harmony between people, technology, and nature and to continue operating responsibly and sustainably in this unique alpine region bordering the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Construction and investment activities
New Construction of the Gletschermühle Restaurant:
Following the successful first construction phase, which included the building of the basement in the summer of 2024, the new Gletschermühle restaurant project was completed during the summer and autumn months of 2025. Even in the planning phase, state-of-the-art construction methods and high energy efficiency characterized the project. With a heat pump system including deep boreholes and supplementary air-source heat exchangers, the company set new standards on the mountain. Photovoltaic panels on the roof now support the energy supply.
Reconstruction of the summit cable car
The comprehensive renovation of the summit cable car began at the end of June 2025. All control and drive components, as well as the cable car cabins, were renewed, the stations were modernized, and the transport areas were specifically upgraded. In addition, the valley station building was fitted with a high-performance photovoltaic system.
Sustainability and energy efficiency
Expansion of Photovoltaic Systems:
As part of the permitting process for the renovation work at the Gletschermühle restaurant, the summit lift, and the Maiskogel mountain station, the company also secured permits for additional photovoltaic systems. A total of approximately 400 modules were installed on the roofs of the buildings. This increased the photovoltaic system's output by 197 kilowatts peak to a total of 600 kilowatts peak. Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG uses almost all of the generated solar energy for its own consumption, as operations and energy use are primarily concentrated during daylight hours.
Ecological construction supervision
Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG understands its business development as a responsibility towards the sensitive alpine environment. A visible expression of this commitment is its long-standing collaboration with the Salzburg Institute for Ecology, whose experts provide professional guidance for all environmentally relevant planning and construction projects. The company transparently documents the measures implemented in its annual report and on its website. In doing so, Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG consistently pursues its path of forward-looking and environmentally responsible business development.
E-mobility in everyday work
In the 2024/25 financial year, Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG expanded its company-owned fleet of electric vehicles with additional models. Many employees now carpool between their homes and workplaces. The vehicles are charged at company-owned charging stations that demonstrably use electricity from renewable energy sources. This ensures that commuting is completely CO₂-free.
Employees at the center
Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG sees itself as an attractive, future-oriented employer offering secure jobs, strong career development opportunities, and an exceptional work environment. In the 2024/25 financial year, the company employed an average of 301 full-time equivalent employees and continued to invest strategically in professional development, apprenticeship programs, and workplace health initiatives.
Furthermore, Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG acquired additional employee accommodations, creating more living space close to the workplace. For employees, this means shorter commutes, significantly less stress when searching for housing, and reliable working conditions.
With its employer branding campaign, “My job is anything but ordinary,” the company puts the people behind the mountain experience in the spotlight while simultaneously focusing on long-term employee retention, high-quality service, and a strong sense of community.
OUTLOOK FOR THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR 2025/26
The first snowfalls in mid-September and the proven snow management system utilizing stored snow created ideal conditions for a smooth start to the ski season on October 11th. Despite the low snowfall this winter, the offerings at Kitzsteinhorn, Maiskogel, and Lechnerberg remained consistently high. This is also confirmed by the visitor numbers, which are higher than the previous year. Spring skiing is still possible at Kitzsteinhorn until May 25th.
