Swedish Squad For Junior Worlds In Narvik Named

The Junior Alpine World Ski Championships will be held from 5-15 March in Narvik, Norway, where the Alpine World Ski Championships for seniors will also be held in 2029. The skiers selected are some of the names fighting for national team places and in the future could be starting in the World Cup. Now the squad for the 2026 JVM is complete with 14 Swedish skiers selected. Some with experience from the recent Olympics, others with strong results from this season's European Cup (EC). For some of them, the junior championship can be a valuable preparation for the larger championship in three years, when there is not so much competition on the slopes down towards the Narvik Fjord.

"This year's squad for the Junior World Championships in Narvik consists of both experienced European Cup skiers and younger up-and-coming names who have shown strong form during the season. As always, we have high ambitions and the goal is to be there and fight for medals on site. It is precisely the breadth of the skiers that makes this year's squad feel super good. We are sending eight talented guys," says Carl-Johan Öster, head coach of the men's European Cup team.

At last year's World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, Cornelia Öhlund was among those present, and won a gold in slalom as one of five Swedish medals. Gustav Wissting won last year's silver in slalom and, together with Cornelia, has also been selected for Narvik where they both have good medal chances.

"We are starting with a strong women's squad of six skaters where we will be fighting for medals both individually and in the team competitions. We have a mix of experienced skaters with high class who have performed both at the European Cup and the World Cup. Then we also have skaters who are making their debut at the JVM. We are looking forward to an exciting event in Narvik," says Anders Andersson, head coach of the women's European Cup team.

Here is the Swedish JVM squad

  • Cornelia Öhlund, Åre SLK  Established in the World Cup and showed great form in the Olympics. She will compete in giant slalom.

  • Moa Landström, Västerås Slalom Club  Has taken a big step in her development this winter. Has shown that she belongs at the top of the EC with her results in slalom.

  • Esther Nordberg, Mälaröarnas Alpina Skidklubb  She has shown that she has the capacity to achieve great results. She took her first EC points before Christmas. Was close to the podium last year at the JVM with a nice 4th place.

  • Louise Lundquist, Saltsjöbaden's SLK  Shows at FIS competitions back home in Sweden that she is one of the top in her slalom discipline. Has participated in and tried the European Cup this season.

  • Linnea Nilsson Hägg, Kiruna BK  Has come back from injury and has also shown that she is one of the top here at FIS competitions. Has also tried out for EC this year.

  • Lina Gustafsson, Karlstads SLK  Lina has shown on home soil that she is of high class in her discipline giant slalom, and was close to scoring points at the EC in Sestriere. Lina has also achieved good results in the speed disciplines at the FIS in Hafjell and Kvitfjell.

He has been on the leaderboards in recent years and has taken further steps this season, especially at home where he has established himself at the top. The plan is to give Liam the opportunity to compete internationally.

  • Gustav Wissting, Lycksele AK  We know Gustav's capacity and here the goal is clear - we are going for a medal. Gustav is the reigning silver medalist and has slalom as his main event. The focus is on getting in optimal shape for the competitions in Narvik.

  • Filip Aronsson, Kils SLK  Last season Filip was stopped by injury, which meant he missed the JVM. This year's Junior World Championships has been a clear goal during the year. During the season he has competed in the European Cup and gained valuable international experience.

  • William Hällqvist , IFK Lidingö Slalom Club  William is an exciting name with a high top level. During the season he has had the opportunity in the European Cup and has shown good work ethic and cutting-edge technique. He is considered to have the greatest chance of a medal in giant slalom.

  • Philip Jonsson, Klövsjö Alpina  Philip is one of Sweden's top skiers who masters both slalom and giant slalom. After a short period out of competition, he is now back and working to find his form for Narvik.

  • Nick Nyberg, Åre SLK  Nick has had a clearly increasing form during the season and is a potential joker in the team. His strengths are both in the technical execution and in the soft values – preparation, attitude and work ethic.

  • Alexander Ax Swartz, IFK Lidingö Slalom Club  Alexander is a stable skater who continuously places high in Swedish competitions and has a high top level and the potential to establish himself internationally. Last year he took silver in the team parallel, which shows his championship capacity.
