Retro Day at Mont Sutton on Saturday, March 7th – Celebrating 65 years of passion,
04/March/2026
For 65 years, Mont SUTTON has welcomed young and old alike for magical moments on the slopes, amidst breathtaking panoramas. Mountain enthusiasts, those with a taste for nostalgia, and all those with a festive spirit are invited to gather on the mountain this Saturday, March 7, for a Retro Day that will take everyone on a journey through fond memories and a promising future!
While Mont SUTTON began as an ambitious project, the brainchild of Réal Boulanger, then only 32 years old, it has developed magnificently into a major ski resort in Quebec. In 1960, the Boulanger family, owners of the land at that time, opened the Mont Sutton ski resort. It was Réal Boulanger who laid out the first trails in the mountain's woods. The Boulanger family operated the ski resort for several years, until March 2016.
The mountain was then purchased by a group of local investors, headed by Jean-Michel Ryan, President and CEO. That same year, a portion of the resort's land was transferred to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Following the acquisition of the resort, the Ryan group made several investments to improve the experience offered at the mountain. Notably, the group invested over ten million dollars to make the mountain a four-season destination. As a matter of fact, in the past years, a summit campground, a multiple of mountain bike trails offered in collaboration with Plein air Sutton / MTB, a giant zip line, a zip line coaster and a disc golf course have been added to Mont Sutton while preserving the mountain's DNA.
From the family purchase of 3,000 acres of sloping land, a 230-acre playground with a 460-meter vertical drop has grown. Offering four groomed runs and two lifts (a chairlift and a T-bar) when it opened on December 17, 1960, along with a base lodge and a ski school, the resort evolved to offer around twenty runs by the early 1970s and underwent a major expansion in the 1990s. Today, it boasts 60 runs, 204 interconnections, and 10 lifts, in addition to offering year-round tourism.
Ten years ago, a new chapter began with the acquisition of the mountain by the Ryan-Gervais-Chesnay group. At the time, it was one of the last mountains still owned by its original owners, the Boulanger family.
The past ten years have been marked by an ambitious vision, strategic investments, and a clear intention: to develop a four-season mountain resort and renew its infrastructure without altering the soul and unique character of the institution. Improvements to facilities, enhancements to the customer experience, renewal of operational equipment, the development and promotion of four-season activities (mountain biking, disc golf, ziplines, summit camping, etc.), and several sustainable investments have totaled over $12 million invested in the mountain. Every decision has been guided by this intention to preserve what makes Mont SUTTON so truly unique.
In 2026, the mountain is more vibrant than ever and continues to enthusiastically improve its services. Tangible proof? The largest investment in its history is on the horizon with the arrival, this coming winter, of a new quad chairlift in the west zone. A major project (over $8 million in investment) that will enhance the customer experience, renew and modernize the terrain, without compromising the mountain's natural balance or the variety of offerings. Upon completion of this project, over $22 million will have been invested in the mountain over the past 10 years.
Celebrate the memories this Saturday, March 7th.
To celebrate the mountain's 65 winter seasons, while also looking ahead to the future, which has been well underway thanks to several seasons of significant investment, a Retro Day will take place on Saturday, March 7th, with a festive atmosphere guaranteed.
A retro-inspired photo booth will be on site to recreate the spirit of the mountain's early years. Enthusiasts are invited to dress in their finest vintage attire and bring season passes, club pins, and more to share their memories.
Throughout the day, there will be prize draws, and a contest for the best retro outfit will be held for those interested. A Burton snowboard demo will also take place for even more fun at the base of the slopes. After skiing, there will be tastings for participants of legal age, and DJ Raffo will be there to keep the retro party going!
Two contests are also being held online and on social media to make this day truly special. Up for grabs: a $200 gift card to recreate a vintage photo, or THREE laps of the famous Sno-Cat Tucker this Saturday, March 7th, driven by Luc Boulanger, son of founder Réal Boulanger! Register quickly…
