Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal Holds Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Walmendingerhorn cable car

A significant moment for the future of the mountain railways in Kleinwalsertal -  the official groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of construction for the new Walmendingerhorn cable car.

After more than 60 years of reliable operation, a modern facility is being built here, combining proven aerial tramway technology with innovative solutions. For guests, this will mean greater comfort, increased capacity, and an even better mountain experience.

Of particular importance is the responsible stewardship of the alpine environment. The new building focuses on sustainable construction methods and modern infrastructure – both for our guests and for our employees.

The design of the new cabins also sends a strong signal for the region with one cabin in the look of the mountain railways, the other in the appearance of Kleinwalsertal Tourismus eGen – a visible symbol of the close cooperation in the valley.

With its planned completion by December 2026, a future-oriented infrastructure will be created for the coming decades.

The Walmendingerhorn is known to be the mountain for all senses and the cable car helps you to get to the top. Once arrived, you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view from there. With 15km of slopes for beginners and experienced skiers in winter, as well as culinary delights all year round, the Walmendingerhorn has a lot to offer. Seeing, hearing, feeling and tasting are part of your visit to the 'Gipfelstuba' restaurant or the 'Horabar' with their sun terraces, deck chairs and fantastic views. And you can not only expect your food to be of the best quality, customer service is our top priority, too!

The top station of the Walmendingerhorn cable car itself has a glass panoramic lift and a large, wind-shielded terrace with a deck chair area to offer. And even in your deck chair you do not have to abstain from culinary delights: our friendly waiters will serve you right there as well!

Skiing tip for all guests staying in the Kleinwalsertal: You do not have to wait until you are at the Walmendingerhorn to start your skiing day. Many hotels in the area come with a ski in/ski out access to the slopes of Heuberg and Parsenn. They will take you easily to the Walmendingerhorn and back.

Summer tip for nature lovers: the Walmendingerhorn cable car takes you to the top station and from there you can start to explore the alpine flowers educational trail. On the way to the summit cross, hikers pass more than 130 different species of plants and flowers. Short, informative boards convey knowledge about the alpine flora. Once you have reached the Walmendingerhorn summit, you will be rewarded with an amazing panoramic view on the nature protection area of the 'Schwarzwasser' valley and on the majestic Ifen plateau which you can now see from an uncommon perspective - it's back side.
