04/March/2026
Local police and ski areas are working together - the Murau district police command entered into an official security partnership with Murtal Seilbahnen Betriebs GmbH/Lachtal Lifte u. Seilbahnen GmbH as part of the GEMEINSAM.SICHER initiative.
A key part of GEMEINSAM.SICHER's work is maintaining contacts. As a central hub within the police force, GEMEINSAM.SICHER continuously strives to exchange ideas with numerous organizations, companies, and security partners and to address shared topics.
Under the working title "TOGETHER.SAFE in Winter Sports," a written agreement has been signed to further expand and intensify the existing cooperation in the Kreischberg and Lachtal ski resorts. The Murau District Police Command and Murtal Seilbahnen Betriebs GmbH (Murtal Cable Car Operations Ltd.) and Lachtal Lifte u. Seilbahnen GmbH (Lachtal Lifts and Cable Cars Ltd.) will now jointly ensure greater safety in winter sports as part of an official safety partnership.
A special focus is placed on joint security communication in order to strengthen the sense of security of winter sports guests throughout the ski area and on the ski slopes by using shared resources and shared infrastructure.
Specially trained police officers in the alpine service work closely with the mountain railways and the ski patrol. In addition, traffic safety around the ski resorts is supported through patrols and information campaigns.
Official signing & Coffee with Cops
The contract was signed in the morning at the mountain station of the Kreischbergbahn cable car.
District Police Commander Captain Martin Mellem explained at the contract signing: "Safety in the ski resorts is best achieved through collaboration. Police, ski patrol, and mountain railways work together quickly and in a coordinated manner, not only in emergencies. A focus is also placed on education and prevention, so that winter sports enthusiasts can feel safe in our ski resorts."
Reinhard Kargl, Managing Director of the mountain railways, stated regarding the official cooperation: "Safety is our top priority in the Kreischberg and Lachtal ski areas. With the police as a strong partner, we are creating an environment in which all guests feel safe and can enjoy their winter sports."
After the official part of the event, the police invited guests to a "Coffee with Cops" event. Winter sports enthusiasts had the opportunity to chat informally with police officers over a cup of coffee about safety, personal experiences, or everyday matters.
