From the Peak to the Plane: The Bamford London GMT Forged Carbon

f you’ve spent any time looking at high-end skis or splitboards lately, you know that carbon fiber is the undisputed king of strength-to-weight ratios. Now, Bamford London is bringing that same high-performance engineering to your wrist with their latest release: the GMT Forged Carbon.

Whether you're navigating a layover on your way to Niseko or timing your après-ski session in Chamonix, this piece is built to handle the transition from the mountain to the terminal with ease.

The standout feature for any winter athlete is the forged carbon case. Unlike traditional steel, this material is formed by compressing carbon fibers under intense pressure, resulting in a watch that is incredibly strong yet remarkably lightweight—essential when you’re already hauling a gear bag.

Because of the unique compression process, the case features a naturally marbled, "geological" surface. This means no two watches are identical; your timepiece is as unique as your line through the trees.

Anyone who has spent a bluebird day at 3,000 meters knows that glare is the enemy. Bamford has equipped this GMT with sapphire crystal glass featuring an anti-glare treatment. It’s designed for exceptional scratch resistance—handy for those inevitable bumps against chairlift bars—while maintaining maximum legibility in the harsh light of the snowpack.

For the modern globetrotter, the watch is powered by a Swiss automatic GMT movement (the Sellita SW330-2). It features:

  • Dual Time Tracking: A dedicated GMT hand and an internal 24-hour bezel allow you to track a second time zone, so you always know when to call home from the lodge.

  • Power Reserve: A 56-hour power reserve, meaning it’ll keep ticking even if you swap it for a fitness tracker during a heavy day of touring.

  • Resilience: It boasts 100m (10 ATM) water resistance, so it’s more than capable of handling melting slush or a post-ride soak in the hot tub.

“This is about pushing materials forward while staying true to what a GMT should be,” says George Bamford. “Forged carbon brings a completely different energy to the watch. It’s lightweight, incredibly strong, and visually unique every single time. We wanted to create something that feels modern, but still deeply functional.”

The Verdict

Finished with a black rubber strap that balances durability with "sport-luxury" comfort, the watch feels right at home over a base layer or under a cuff. It’s a progressive evolution of the classic traveler’s watch, ditching traditional finishes for something that feels more at home in the backcountry.
