Dolomiti Superski Is Heading towards the future with the Smartpass

The second test season of Dolomiti Superski's SmartPass, the mobile version of the ski pass installed on the smartphones of participating users, is nearing completion. Following its successful launch last year in San Martino di Castrozza – Rollepass, the project was expanded this winter to include the ski areas of Alta Badia, Alpe Lusia – San Pellegrino, and Val di Fassa – Carezza. Satisfaction with the progress achieved is growing, and further expansion for the upcoming season is already being planned.

Dolomiti Superski continues its path of digital innovation with the second winter season of the SmartPass test phase. The system allows direct access to the lifts via smartphones. Following the pilot project last season in San Martino di Castrozza, the SmartPass is now also active in the Alta Badia, Alpe Lusia/San Pellegrino, and Val di Fassa/Carezza ski areas. There, the system is being tested on a larger scale and gradually optimized to offer skiers an even simpler, smoother, and more modern experience. In concrete terms, more than 6,700 SmartPasses have been sold so far this season, covering 16,600 ski days and generating a total of 140,000 lift rides in the participating ski areas.

The test phase is currently limited to area-specific ski passes. Those purchasing online can choose between the traditional MyDolomiti Card option, single-use tickets, or activating the SmartPass on their smartphone. It's intuitive to use: The free MyDolomiti app scans the QR code on the voucher, confirming the online purchase of the ski pass. The user then clicks on the generated link to connect the SmartPass to their device. At the lifts, simply approach the turnstile as usual, keeping your smartphone in your left jacket or trouser pocket. And then you're ready to hit the slopes.

“It’s a step towards the future that we wanted to take as soon as the technology allowed. On the one hand, this means a great increase in comfort for our guests, and on the other hand, we also expect ecological benefits, as we can save several tons of plastic carriers for traditional ski passes – especially single-use cards,” explains Marco Pappalardo, Marketing Director of Dolomiti Superski.

From a technical perspective, the SmartPass was made possible primarily by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. While the Bluetooth transmission protocol itself isn't new, its previously high energy consumption significantly hampered the implementation of a ski pass on a smartphone. The risk of running out of battery during a day of skiing and causing problems at the turnstiles would have been too great. With the introduction of BLE, which requires considerably less energy, battery power is conserved and the device's functionality is guaranteed throughout the entire ski day. "This technological leap in quality has allowed us to embark on this new path with confidence and enthusiasm – knowing that the previous technical limitations are no longer an obstacle. Dolomiti Superski is once again at the forefront when innovation becomes reality," emphasizes Gianni Rasom, Engineer and Technical Manager of Dolomiti Superski.

Proper use of SmartPass requires a compatible device running Android 8.0 or higher, or iOS 16.0 or higher. Some Huawei models are not currently supported. It is recommended to check your device's compatibility before purchasing or activating the service.

Now begins a particularly interesting phase of the season to try out this new offer – a solution that is likely to become standard in the coming years. From March 14th, the Dolomiti Springdays offer the L version with 7 nights for the price of 6 (plus a 6-day ski pass for the price of 5) and attractive conditions for ski school and ski rental. From March 21st until the end of the season, the S version follows, offering 4 nights' accommodation and a ski pass for the price of 3.

Those who opt for a regional ski pass can select the SmartPass function directly during the online purchase. Additionally, guests who purchase their ski pass online at least two days before its start date receive an extra 5% discount.

Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 winter season, the results of the second test phase will be carefully analyzed with the aim of further optimizing the service and examining a gradual expansion to an increasing number of ski resorts within the Dolomiti Superski network.

With the SmartPass, Dolomiti Superski reaffirms its commitment to a skiing experience that is increasingly digital, efficient, sustainable and future-oriented.
