Christina Ager Retires

Christina Ager ends her active skiing career,  after 13 years in the professional circuit, the 30-year-old is drawing a line under her sporting career and saying goodbye to the World Cup stage.

In 2013, the Tyrolean skier made her World Cup debut in Levi, Finland. Wearing bib number 53, the then 18-year-old sensationally finished fourth in the slalom. In 2015, she switched to the speed disciplines of downhill and Super-G. She achieved third place in the World Cup downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In the European Cup, she triumphed ten times and reached the podium 22 times. Despite her injury woes – she suffered two ACL tears within a single year – she repeatedly fought her way back into the World Cup circuit. After 100 World Cup starts, it's now time for the speed specialist to hang up her racing skis.

"The last 13 years in elite sports have been a formative journey with highs and lows, which I look back on with gratitude.

“Skiing has shaped me, taught me how to get back up after setbacks, and given me unforgettable moments. Third place in Cortina was the reward for all the hard work and countless hours in rehabilitation. Now is the right time to begin a new chapter and dedicate myself to new challenges. At this point, I would also like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank my family, my coaches, and my support staff. They made skiing possible for me and have supported me all these years. A big thank you also goes to all my sponsors, equipment suppliers, and partners, as well as the Austrian Ski Federation and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance,” said Christina Ager.

Ager won a bronze medal at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, two medals at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, and competed at the 2014 and 2015 Junior World Championships where her best placement was fifth in 2015.

She made her World Cup debut in November 2013 in Levi, Finland, shocking the alpine skiing world with a fourth place in the slalom. Competing in all disciplines, Ager made the top 10 again in the 2018–19 season with a 10th place in Val Gardena, 9th place in Cortina d'Ampezzo and lastly a 6th place in the combined in February 2019 in Crans Montana.
