Val di Fassa: Construction work has begun on the Moena–Valbona cable car

A new lift in the center of Moena is intended to reduce traffic and make the ski area more accessible.

Significant progress has been made on the new cable car that connects the town of Moena in Val di Fassa with the Alpe Lusia ski area.

The concession agreement for the planning, construction and management of the connection between Moena and the Lusia-Bellamonte ski resort was signed in early 2026 and entrusted to a temporary consortium of companies led by Leitner.

The signing marks the commissioning of an infrastructure project considered strategically important for the mobility and tourism development of Val di Fassa. The project aims to improve connections between the town and the ski resort, reduce car traffic, and promote more sustainable transport options.

The project includes the construction of a gondola lift for ten people, starting from Navalge Square in the heart of Moena and arriving in Valbona, where it will connect to the existing facilities towards the Alpe Lusia ski area.

The construction investment amounts to €15.7 million, while the total value of the 25-year concession is estimated at approximately €42.8 million. The infrastructure is intended to benefit both tourism and the quality of life of residents and employees, thereby increasing the attractiveness of the tourist destination.

“This facility represents an important link and not only offers a convenient starting point for accessing the Alpe Lusia ski area, but is also a significant step towards reducing the use of private cars,” commented Valeria Ghezzi, President of ANEF. “Ski lifts are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative means of transport because they are efficient, versatile and environmentally friendly.”

The plant is scheduled to be operational in the winter of 2027/2028.
