AI tracking from Mountain Management and Lumifai analyzes online response to 65 top ski destinations in the Alps

In an era of fundamental change in travel communication, one question is becoming increasingly crucial: How do guests actually perceive the destination? What is being said, written, reviewed, and recommended online? Mountain Management, in collaboration with AI specialist Lumifai, is now offering, for the first time, a comprehensive, periodic analysis of travel opinions in the Alpine region – initially based on German-language online content, for both the winter and summer seasons. The analysis covers 65 of the leading ski destinations in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and France.

Four measurement ranges – a complete online picture

The new performance tracking system combines four key online channels into a consistent overall picture for the first time:

  • Social Media – Moods, reach and interaction dynamics on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok & Co.

  • Review portals – the unfiltered guest feedback from Tripadvisor, Google & Co.

  • News, blogs and forums – the public debate surrounding the destination.

AI research – how destinations are described and recommended by generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity – is an increasingly crucial channel in travel decisions.

This provides marketing and communications managers with the most comprehensive online tracking of travel opinions in the Alpine region currently available.

Breadth instead of tunnel vision – the crucial difference

There are many social listening solutions available – and many of them can measure individual brands with impressive detail. What has been missing so far, however, is a systematic view of the entire market. This is precisely where the new tracking comes in: Instead of analyzing a destination in isolation, the entire Alpine region is tracked in parallel – in the same categories, with the same metrics, and from the same sources. The result is reliable comparisons between regions, countries, and direct competitors. Thus, the statement "We were mentioned 1,200 times" becomes the far more valuable insight: "We are discussed twice as often as our main competitor – but in a more critical tone."

14 categories, 37 dimensions

Another key focus is on the depth of content. Fourteen central topic categories with a total of 37 dimensions are systematically evaluated – from slope offerings, snow reliability, and service to value for money, infrastructure, and sustainability, as well as après-ski, family-friendliness, and crisis events. This allows not only for a snapshot of public sentiment but also for the precise identification of the underlying drivers of positive and negative perceptions.

Countries and destinations in direct comparison

In addition to individual destination profiles, the tracking provides detailed country analyses for Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France, as well as cross-country rankings. Which destinations are generating the most discussion? Where is the sentiment most positive? Which topics are scoring points in which markets – and where are there untapped opportunities? This provides, for the first time, a central, directly comparable data foundation for benchmarking and strategic positioning.

Relevance for daily online marketing

For targeted online marketing, this data is indispensable today: it reveals which topics are currently gaining traction, where a reputational dent is developing, and where the competition is gaining ground. Communication teams can then act quickly and proactively – instead of reactively responding to developments that have already gained momentum.

The ideal complement to brand image tracking

The new performance tracking complements the brand image tracking already established by Mountain Management and Lumifai since 2024. While the brand image report analyzes what a destination conveys in its own online communication, the performance tracking shows how this image is actually received in the digital space – in other words, what is being said, written, and recommended about the destination online. Together, the two tools provide a holistic picture of self-perception and external perception – and create the foundation for managing communication in a data-driven, targeted, and real-time manner.
