Wyssen showcases Avalanche detection for Livigno Winter Olympics venue

Livigno is located in the Italian Alps near the Swiss border and is a key venue for the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

To optimize the availability of access roads, a large number of sensors were installed for improved forecasting and avalanche detection.

A combination of GINA (seismic) and IDA (infrasound) automatically detects avalanches and activates the traffic lights on the road in the event of major events. Cameras in the starting and runout zones provide valuable information to emergency services.

The Wyseen team is proud to contribute to a safe and successful Winter Olympics in Livigno.

Installed systems:

  • 3x GINA Geophones in Avalanche

  • 1x IDA Infrasound Detection System,

  • 4 Cameras

  • 1 PTZ Camera,

  • WAC.3 Cockpit PRO

  • Software Module "Ski Trail Control" for monitoring and controlling important traffic and hiking trails.

All data from the detection systems – from sensor readings to live webcam images – are centrally collected and clearly displayed in the WAC.3®. This gives users a comprehensive overview of the current situation at all times and enables them to make informed decisions.
