Tärnaby Alpint invests in snow storage for an early start to the ski season

By autumn 2026, there will be a new facility for early season ski training in Sweden. Tärnaby Alpint is making a strategic investment in storing snow to ensure an early start to the season in Tärnaby, increase the facility's attractiveness and create new conditions for alpine activities.
Snow storage means that snow from this winter season is preserved over the summer for use early in the fall. The method reduces the dependence on cold temperatures to open for the season and creates better planning opportunities for opening the ski resort.
"This is a strategic decision for Tärnaby Alpint to be able to guarantee an early start to the season for the ski resort, which means that we can then offer skiing and alpine training earlier in the fall than today for our guests, says David Johansson, owner of Tärnaby Alpint.
Another facility in Sweden using artificial snow to open its ski season earlier in the year creates opportunities for more people to train at home in Sweden during the pre-season. This could reduce the need for clubs around Sweden to travel far.
" It is great that Tärnaby is taking this step, it opens up more opportunities to start training early at home. The proximity principle is important for sustainably developing skiers in Sweden, says Tobias Fellman, national manager of the Swedish Ski Association alpine & ski cross.
"We have been looking at snow storage for a long time, but it is only now that we have found a sustainable method that will work for us in Tärnaby. The parameters we have looked at are melting, the lifespan of the material and handling on the slope, says Hans Bromee, owner of Tärnaby Alpint.
The investment also contributes to better planning of resources and energy consumption, which provides the opportunity to control the production of snow in a more energy-efficient way, which strengthens sustainable operations for the company. This is part of Tärnaby Alpint's long-term strategy for value-creating development of Tärnaby as an alpine destination.
"This investment strengthens Tärnaby's position as a competitive alpine destination and strengthens our long-term strategy for developing Tärnaby as a ski resort, says David Johansson at Tärnaby Alpint.
