Positive Interim Results In Hinterstoder And On The Wurzeralm

Brilliant sunshine, low temperatures, and perfectly groomed slopes – that's how the Upper Austrian ski resorts of Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm are presenting themselves before the semester break. The cable car operators are reporting positive results for the first half of the season and expect the ski season to continue successfully.

High visitor numbers have once again been achieved.

The early snowfall in November ensured a successful start to the season, allowing for excellent slope conditions even during the warmer period in December. The persistent fog in the valleys practically drew guests to the sunny heights of the Höss and Wurzeralm mountains. Despite the challenging conditions in December, the high number of visitors from the previous year has been maintained so far.

“We will have to get used to these new winters: lots of sun, low temperatures, but less natural snow,” said Helmut Holzinger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG.

Ingredients for very good slope conditions

“With the change in weather in mid-January, we received some fresh snow and very cold temperatures. This allowed us to work optimally and have been offering top-notch slope conditions ever since,” explains Helmut Holzinger. Low temperatures, low humidity, and occasional fog in the valleys are ensuring that the current snowpack is well preserved.

The current conditions provide a perfect starting point for the semester break, which begins next weekend with the school holidays for students in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland. “Of course, we would like additional snowfall for the semester break, but even without it, we can offer excellent slope conditions,” says Holzinger.

Worthwhile investments on the Wurzeralm

The investment in the new snowmaking system at Frauenkar on the Wurzeralm has already proven its worth. Thanks to the modernized infrastructure, consistently excellent slope conditions were guaranteed even during a period of challenging weather. While the Wurzeralm suffered under the demanding conditions in December, stable operations can now be ensured.
