Pistenbully's new 6-band X-Track chain now in action
11/February/2026
In the early morning hours, as the sun slowly rises over the slopes of the Allgäu region, Thomas Neyer is already on the piste. As head of piste maintenance for the Imbergbahn and Skiarena in Steibis, he knows what it means to carve a perfect track, even in challenging conditions. Since he started using the new 6-band X-Track system, his assessment is unequivocal: "More than satisfied!" – that's how he describes what he and his team are now achieving on the slopes.
Outstanding performance in low snow conditions
What used to be a challenge on days with little snow, the X-Track chain masters with impressive ease. The piste surface is significantly more stable, and the snow stays where it belongs. "Whether cross-country trails or slopes – the track lasts noticeably longer," confirms Thomas Neyer. And on the problematic slope edges in spring, where snowdrifts used to dominate the daily scene, a new, smooth piste surface emerges. "Almost like a World Cup slope – mirror-smooth!" Neyer raves. The secret lies in the chain's high compaction and intelligent design. Less snow being thrown out, more snow staying put – that makes all the difference.
Efficient, fuel-saving and environmentally friendly
The new 1,420 mm X-Track track is a technical masterpiece that meets the challenges of modern ski resorts with impressive flexibility. It was designed to deliver optimal results even with a shallow snowpack. Its strengths are particularly evident in valley areas, on connecting paths, and when relocating snow cannons. The shallower penetration depth into the snow reduces heat input – a noticeable advantage not only for slope quality but also, due to the reduced milling depth, for fuel consumption and thus the environmental impact.
Complete processing with minimal passes
What immediately impresses is the even coverage of the surface. The track is so wide that hardly any passes are needed when driving in staggered patterns. This protects the turf, reduces dirt and debris, and makes the PistenBully a true precision machine. The combination of reinforced, stable runners and spiked ice grippers ensures excellent lateral grip and climbing performance, even on hard or icy snow. The operator experiences not only driving comfort but also safety and control, making working on the mountain noticeably more pleasant.
Suitable for all seasons – ready for any challenge
And the best part: The X-Track chain is ready for year-round use. Whether on winter slopes or summer access roads – it remains reliably in operation without the need for a chain change. Thanks to its flexible configuration – without spiked ice grips, with half or full grips – it adapts perfectly to the respective conditions, even on steep sections.
A tool that makes the difference
For many skiers and piste managers, it's more than just a means of propulsion – it's a tool that makes the difference between a good and an exceptional slope. The 6-band X-Track chain offers not only technological sophistication but also the peace of mind of being prepared for any weather and snow conditions.
